This hurry up offense is fun to watch, but is it foolhardy to keep your defense on the field most of the game when there's no depth? Our defense never gets a rest. They held up last night, and I don't see it making a difference in our last 3 games (beating UGA would take a miracle, and the other 2 should be easy wins), but could the record be better if the defense wasn't gassed in the 4th quarter? Could they have beaten Pitt or Ole Miss? I suppose it's hard to argue with what we are seeing versus what we are used to seeing. Question #2: Am I the only one that hates these passes behind the line of scrimmage? What's the point? If they try that crap with UGA's elite defense it could be ugly.

Passes behind the line can work well, but if a d-back gets a jump and it is picked off there is no stopping them until they are in the end zone.

It's a necessary evil at this point run the hurry up offense to get it established and some experience while expectations are low while trying to add depth to the defense in coming years to be able to sustain the level of play needed.

I like it, it's fun to watch. But I think it will "plane out" at some point. Outside of sometimes upsetting some of the bigger teams, I don't think we will consistently beat the best teams with this style of football. Hope I'm wrong and it's going to be a fun ride regardless after the crap shows we have watched for years

I personally like it scoring points is fun, I'm sure the offesive play making recruits like what they see as well.

Yes the vols have no depth on defense right now, but you hope by year 3 that is not the case.

The good thing about this type of offense if your dropping 40-50pts a game you don't need a great defense. A few stops and 1 turnover gets you the W like last night.

Not sure if it will work out, I am sure they are in alot better hands right now then they have been in thelast decade

1. Yes and no. You almost have to wonder if UK wasn't trying to let us score quickly in order to help wear down our defense. This defense is a cobbled together mess and they are punching way above their weight class. Our LBs are a career RB and a couple guys pulled out of cold storage. I have not been pleased with our older guys in the secondary but they've done enough in most games. The style of offense puts them behind the 8 ball, but they've got to get off the field on some 3rd downs. It's not been pretty especially lately but I'm proud of them and that coaching staff.
I think if #5 had been getting first team reps all year long we beat Pitt, don't know about Ole Miss.
2. I think it's more Heupel calling plays based on what the defense is giving him and it being an extension of our run game. With a healthy o line and full stable of RBs we've ran the ball well. Even though all those guys were on the field they ain't healthy so we've got to keep defenses honest by getting the ball quickly to our best playmakers.

It gets lost once you get in the season and we see missed opportunities but I think it's important to just take half a second and be grateful what a competent QB can do for a program. Not only competent but good to great QB play. Hooker for senate.

I was watching ESPN earlier and they were talking to NC coach Mack Brown. His NC team had just beaten Wake Forest 58-55. When asked about his teams win, his first remark was "it was obvious neither team has a defense." This came from the mouth of a veteran coach with a National Championship. I was listening to him and thought he should have protected his defense by slowing down his offense and eating clock.

SO.....if Tennessee knows they have a weak, decimated defense they ought to possess the ball longer on offense.

Tennessee threw a swing pass that went for 70+ yards on the first drive. Puts defense right back on the field.

Next drive Tennessee throws a 20 yard pass down the sideline to Jones he goes untouched for 70+ yards. Puts defense right back out on field.

KY throws interception, Tennessee goes 55 yards untouched. Puts defense right back on field.

I'm confused on what some of you guys want the offense to do. Step outta bounds while going untouched 70 yards so they can run a few more plays to let defense rest or what.

We watched a Pruitt team for years consider it a win if they got 2 first downs before turning the ball over or punting. now we are scoring TDs to fast for some lol

Maybe if the defense didn't give up 3ed and medium to long all night they wouldn't have been out there as much.

You bring up 3 plays out of a whole season? You argue like my ex wife. I'll pass.

You know I'm not a Tennessee fan. The passes behind the LOS are just an extension of the run game and a way to remove a defender or two from the box.

UT isn't beating UGA, but I'm looking forward to this game, as are the OCs of Bama, Oregon, Ohio State, and Oklahoma.

X2

You score when you can score and NO WAY was Kentucky "letting UT score" to maintain time of possession. Defense was on the field so long because the offense was scoring so much. Not to many punts in that game. This team is so much better than I thought they would be this year. The only thing coach has missed on was not starting Hooker earlier in the season but maybe he has just progressed alot since then. The Pitt game was one we should have won and NO DOUBT we would play UF better today than we did earlier in the season.

Was like that during Missouri, South Carolina, Kentucky...... I was just talking about most recent game I can name plenty of other quick big play TDs easy. Mad if offense don't sore mad if offense scores to fast.

Like I said we could go back to going 3 and out scoring 14 points .

I told my wife that Tennessee should use a timeout after the second touchdown so the defense could at least drink a cup of Gatorade.

Could just Fall over and act hurt.

Seems to be the thing to do now since Tennessee offense is scoring so fast, and easily own defense can't handle it now days.
