Question for Tennessee fans

You know I'm not a Tennessee fan. The passes behind the LOS are just an extension of the run game and a way to remove a defender or two from the box.

UT isn't beating UGA, but I'm looking forward to this game, as are the OCs of Bama, Oregon, Ohio State, and Oklahoma.
Even if we don't beat UGA if we can score 21+ on them it's a win especially when it comes to recruiting

It's fun to watch but definitely hard on your defense if they don't get a bunch of 3 and outs. I like old school smash mouth football where they line up, tell em where they're running it, and stop me if you can. Nothing more demoralizing that shoving it down their throat all the way down the field.

If the defense wants a breather then they need to make a stop on 3rd down
^^^^^^ +1000..................the way some folks are talking it seems they feel we should give-back the touchdowns to rest our defense:rolleyes:. It's the opposing teams job to stop us from scoring too fast. We are playing to our strengths....our defense as a group is a bunch of guys that are playing much better than was ever expected and on offense we don't have enough depth (injuries) in running backs or the offensive line to try and grind it out. Our defense has to make "stops" to get off the field if they need a rest. LGB!!

I believe if Tennessee were to play Pitt now Tennessee would win. They're a much better team now than they were when they played Pitt. Defense did good enough against Ole Miss. It's not going to get better till the defense gets more talent and speed. We also need better play out of the offensive line. That being said, this team is playing better than we've seen in some time and they have no quit in them. Time will tell

Agree …. UK was what 13 for 17 3rd down conversations! Ole Miss was probably the same and EVERYTIME the kid ran up the middle for a first down on his way to 197 yards rushing that night.
If we had a defense those games we may have scored 70 points! Bama of course is the juggernaut with 5 star water boys.

Yup,

Hard to use defense is to tired excuse, when Tennessee couldn't stop KY from the start.

It wasn't like Tennessee was getting stops in the first half then the defense got worn out. They couldn't stop KY from from kickoff.

Without stating the obvious,, the goal at the end of the game is to have scored more points than the opponent (I guess I did).

There are several ways to do that, coaching-philosophy wise.

I'm sure that our current D-coordinator realizes that he is at a disadvantage, but he must adjust as well as he can.

The only way to succeed long-term with our current strategy is to recruit heavily on the defensive side of the ball. Playing-time opportunities are obviously there.

Saying all of that, if we could limit a running QBs rushing yards, we might get more rest. We would have beaten Ole MIss with one 3-4 tackles on his scrambles.

Oh well, it's a good problem to have.

This hurry up offense is fun to watch, but is it foolhardy to keep your defense on the field most of the game when there's no depth? Our defense never gets a rest. They held up last night, and I don't see it making a difference in our last 3 games (beating UGA would take a miracle, and the other 2 should be easy wins), but could the record be better if the defense wasn't gassed in the 4th quarter? Could they have beaten Pitt or Ole Miss? I suppose it's hard to argue with what we are seeing versus what we are used to seeing. Question #2: Am I the only one that hates these passes behind the line of scrimmage? What's the point? If they try that crap with UGA's elite defense it could be ugly.
Just remember depth works both ways. Just because you get deep on defense does not mean you get to run hurry up offense for 4 quarters. As I pointed out at the first game of the season when I saw the vols running this style of offense that this would work against some of the bottom feeder teams. Try this against some teams with some teams with depth like ALABAMA and Georgia. The teams your gonna have to play every year and the teams your going to have to beat to make it to the next level and your gonna just run out of gas by the 4th quarter every game. That is why you don't see any teams playing at the top levels playing that style of offense. They save that style of offense for key points of the game when its needed and when they can throw it in to confuse the other team.

So question: do you think we score more points that anyone else has against Georgia this weekend?

The Vols were toe toe with bama into the 4th, I highly doubt if they lost 25 players in the portal they would not be anything of a team, Heupel is doing an amazing job, when he gets his players the rest of the sec better be ready, an announcer the other day said it best, nobody want to play Tennessee now

When we get depth we will be a top feeder
