Guess I need to start looking for a range finder! Used my buddies yesterday and they seem to be right on the money. There seems to be a couple options out there. Anybody have a preference?

I bought a brunton before last bow season and it was junk! it just quit working one day and then started working on and off and gave false readings. I returned it and bought a nikon 550! It has worked great! I have even ranged out to 700 yards with it before!

I have heard good things about Leupolds too!

I bought the bushnell yardage pro from wally world..I've been useing it now for 2.5 yrs..Still works great..Ranger finder is a must IMO for bowhunting..They had it rough in the old days,or just over/under shot alot..LOL

Mine too, but I do wish it had better lenses.

Looks like it will be Nikon or bushnell. I have a pair I Nikon monarch Binnoculars that I like. I see they make a Monarch range finder that looks pretty descent. Anybody have any experience with the Nikon Monarch rangefinder?

Make sure you get water proof ones not water resistant. I bought a Bushnell Scout 1000 got them wet and now there toast. $250 down the drain. Going to send them back and see how much its gonna cost to fix them.

The Nikon rangefinders are nice. I'm using the riflemaster with incline/decline technology for angle compensation. I have zero complaints.

Purchased a Nikon Monarch 800 camo for $260. I am not in the tax bracket for Leuopold. I figure anything farther than 800 yds I will be getting in the truck and going for a ride :)

I've got the Leupold RX-2. Its awesome and I've never had any trouble with it!

I have the same thing but find it a POS: inconsistent ranging, can not get a reading when other objects close by, terrible optic, does not work in low light and the black readings are not visible in low light.

Drop 4/5,

Question? Are you using the range finder for both bow and rifle or just for one?

I have 2 one is a Nikon with archery angle for bow hunting in a tree stand or elevated stands.

The other for muzzleloader and rifle is a Bushnell Yardage Pro and can be used for archery also but you have to think about height.

JMO buy the best you can afford...

Here's the thing about elevation for archery hunting....it's never going to be more than a yard or 2 of difference for anything within 40 yards....it really doesn't matter for bow targets.

I just got a Zeiss 8x26. The optic is top rate, the bright read indicator is quite visible, it ranges out to like 1000 yards, and it's low light performance is awesome. I got it because I wanted an optic as well as a great rangefinder, and it answers the mail. It's not cheap, but there's a guy selling them on gunbroker for $599.

Just for archery now. I dont see me needing anything for angle because I am not ready for to much past 40 yards on a good day. I am just starting out with my first bow. I figure by bow season 40 yards will probably be my Max.

Have my doubts about the archery angle a straight line is a straight line?

Try this one time:

1.Shoot from the ground at 30 yards, a qtr away shot.
2.Then climb a tree 30 feet up and shoot 30 yards, qrt. away shot as well and you tell me where you hit? Hold on the target where you did on the ground. ;)

It want be the same at all. :o

Like you said a straight line is a straight line...
