Recoil on 3.5 shells just as a compairison

I once traded for a new england firearms 3 1/2 single shot. It was light as a feather and easy to carry around. I shot it once and i swear it loosened my teeth. LOL I dont have it anymore.
I wish my NEF were light as a feather... a 1,000 pound gun gets tiring after a while. and I only shoot 3" so recoil wouldn't be too big of a problem

This one weighed just a little under six pounds. The guy i got it from removed the weight from inside the stock.

When in college a buddy of mine had a 10 gauge double barrel with a 30" or so barrel if I remember correctly. I had not gotten into turkey hunting at that point and he said "here shoot it" so I leaned up next to the car tire and took aim. I think when it went boom the car moved a foot.

I've got a NEF SS 20 which I use as a household protection weapon. It has a modified bore, and even with 2&3/4-1-6 it is not pleasant to shoot. I let my wife shoot it, just one time, and she was not happy with me that I didn't warn her.

There have been several people that have broken their collarbone shooting some of the lighter shotguns with the 3.5" turkey loads.

I was going to mention that you do not want your shoulder against a tree when that recoil kicks.

Shooting paper with 12 gauge 3.5 turkey shells and 3" slugs are the worst I have ever been kicked. I am pretty sure the worst ever was the day I shot 12-15 Nitro 3.5" shells through my Rem 870 trying to get the POA to coincide with the POI. I finally managed after an hour and a half shooting and a slightly bruised/blackened cheek bone. I'd be willing to bet the Nitro 3.5" shells with 2 7/16 shot is worse than the 78 ft/lbs listed here. They kill on both ends when you are shooting paper. I never seem to notice the kick when shooting an ol' bird. :)

those 2 7/16 do kick.lol

I shoot a 10ga BPS and I don't do much target practice, found what worked years ago and sticking with it. Kicks like a mule, but don't feel it when that turkey bird is on the other end.

Have always just shot what I had from 2 3/4in in a mod.37 half-hammer up to a 835 Mossberg that I use 3 1/2 Win Supremes in #5s. Best thing was a Limb-Saver recoil pad on the 835,took a lot of bite out of my end.

Sweet bejeebers.

No wonder I have to wipe boogers off my shirt when I shoot a 3.5" turkey load. :D :O

I put a primos jellyhead choke in my 835 it felt like it reduced the recoil almost in half.

I would say "perseved" recoil. I cannot see how a simple ported choke would do much of anything to the actual recoil energy.

I to shoot a 835 with a ported Jellyhead and 24" ported barrell. It does take some sting out. I've shot the same load in my 870SM with no porting and can tell a very noticable increase as well as a BPS 3.5 mag.. Now how and why is beyond me. I don't have the degree in physics to explain it.

i am not debating if the ported choke works for you or not but from a physics stand point it "should" have minimal impact on actual recoil energy but can have impact on recoil muzzle jump or climb not to mention perseved recoil from a mental stand point.

I have shot ported and non ported and not tell much of a difference on the recoil but did notice a slight difference in how the recoil was felt. The ported one i shot did reduce some of the climb of the recoil but not a ton. Again thats just my experience and gun.
