Pretty impressive right there.

The Illinois DNR Division of Fisheries congratulates Ken Krumreich of New Lenox on his catch of the new state-record redear sunfish.

Genetics testing by Dr. Mark Davis with the Illinois Natural History Survey in Champaign confirmed the fish is a pure redear.
Caught on May 19, 2018 at the Goose Lake Association's Beaver Lake in Grundy Co., it weighed 3 lbs., 1.1 oz. (15 ¼ in. long; girth of 14 ½ in.).

The previous record 2 lbs., 12.3 oz. redear was caught in Williamson Co. in southern Illinois in 1985.

they grow them big in california, big bluegill too. i would like to fish there one day. this red ear was 5lb 13oz.

I seen deer checked in that didn't weigh much more than that fish!

The largest I've ever seen in person was 12 1/2 " long , I dipped two that size at the same time while dipping shad for bait.

I let them go in the slough I lived in at that time.
