Opinions on what is the best sight, I know a lot of people like the Burris FF 3 but is it the best? Other options? Going to be used on a .410 for my 8 yo daughters so need to be rugged but simple.
Thanks in advance for opinions.

Put the FF3 on my stepson's mossberg and have been really impressed with it, love how it has such a low profile. Only improvement would be a motion sensor like the Romeo 5 has, but I'm unaware of a reflex sight with that capability. With the FF3 having such a low profile it really helps in keeping a good cheek weld, still had to build up the comb for Jaxon.

"best" is subject to use and user. for a long time the FF3 was considered the "best " by most due to price and function. Eotech is prob "better" but way more priced and much much larger which most including myself hate.

however now Leupold, Vortex and Nikon have all come out with a version of the FF3 so there are more options to look at. All of them are in the same class of function and design so it just comes down to price and what you like better on one vs the other. Ive always been a FF3 fan so I have no desire to ever change that unless mine craps out and somehow burris wont fix it, then I may look at other options however I have had 2 of them on 2 guns for 5 years now and have never had a single issue from them.

So another question, What is the difference between the Fast Fire 2 and Fast Fire 3? Can't seem to find a detailed enough description of each to determine the difference.

2 main differences.

1 - the 2 had an actual on/off switch. the 3 has a push button that goes on(auto bright), medium bright and most bright then off. the 3 also has an auto off feature

2 - the main issue with the 2 is you had to take it off to get the battery out to change it. On the 3 you dont have to do that.

I have both the FF3 and the Vortex Venom. I like both of them and either one will work well for you I think. I have the FF3 on my Mossberg 535 and the Venom on a Mossberg 835. Have had no issues with losing zero due to recoil/ shock. The one thing you have to remember is to turn them on and off. I leave mine turned off until I begin working a bird then I flip turn them on. Supposed to have an automatic shutoff after like 18 hours or so on both of them but I still always try to turn them off when I am not actually on a bird.

one thing to note is the FF3 has a battery life of something silly like 10k hours. Im sure the venom is close or the same but I cannot confirm that. So for the folks worried the battery will die on them during a hunt it is HIGHLY unlikely. I left one of mine in for 4 years before changing it lol. When it starts getting low it will blink for a bit when you turn it on letting you know its low.

now I just change them every spring or keep a spare in my vest. some may have the same battery in it for the life of the site really.

Battery life for the Venom is between 150 Hours and 30,000 hours depending on the brightness setting you keep it on (Huge difference I know). For the Burris FF3 it is 10,000 hours. Got all of this from their websites. Couldn't remember the exact numbers off the top of my head.

Pic IN the Casa, that might be a little pricey for mounting on an 8 yo first hunting gun, unless you feeling awfully generous ;)
