Looking at making some improvements in the off-season. I bought the gun used around 4 years ago. Came with a Mad Max .665 (which I can't find too much info about). I have used Federal flight control #6's and Winchester supreme #5's. Both in 3 1/2 inch loads. 7 Birds with it so far, longest was this year at 42 yards. 2 misses, both on spooked birds around 15 yards (Poor shooting on both). Part of me thinks, if it aint broke don't fix it, but part of me just simply wants to have the best combination to succeed when I step out in the field. What choke/ammo combination are you aware of that you would consider to be one of the best for this gun? Thanks.

two identical guns will shoot different. there is no way to know without shooting the various combinations.

I have the exact set up. I have tried many load combinations. I shoot the hevi 13 number 6 shot. This gives me the best pattern at 40 yds in a ten inch circle. If shooting reg shells, it shoots winchester hv #4's the best. You can do better with a jelly head choke and hevi 13, but im happy with the mad max. go to old gobbler .com you can learn more than needed and see pic of any turkey gun out there. By the way my gun hates number 5 shot.

Stik is right i once had a mossberg 835 with a kicks gt that at 30 yds would put the wadding through the target. it would throw a freakin pattern like a softball at that distance. It had a thumbhole stock with a ridge running down where you rested your cheak and it would swell you up ever time you even shot a 2 and 3/4 field load, I traded it for the same gun w/ regular stock that wouldnt kill a turkey at 15 yards. i would say if it is killin them at 42 yds. pattern it because the pattern at 15 might be so tight your shooting a softball pattern.

Listen to this part :) !

my buddy shoots a jellyhead choke with Hev-13 magblend out of his SuperMAG. I have seen it roll turkeys out to a ranged 60 yards.

I would also polish the barrel

My 870sm (A) with 26" barrel and Kick's .665 likes the Win. Sup. HV #5's the best......(when shooting lead).... 153 in a 10" circle @ 40yds.

870sm (B) with a 23" barrel and Indian Creek .665 likes the Hevi #6's..... 211+ in a 10" circle @ 40 yds.

I have a Pure Gold .670 to try with the Hevi Mag Blends for next spring.

P.S. Federal says not to shoot a ported choke with shells that have the flight-control wads......ruins the pattern.

Well I guess if it's working for you..... shoot it to pattern on paper and see what it looks like if you haven't yet..... I just know that's what Federal says and a few other people that have tried to shoot them through ported chokes with poor results in patterns.
