Well I'm either gonna buy me another mossberg 835 or a remington 870 express sometime this year. What are your thoughts on the two? This is for turkey hunting only.

Most everyone will tell you that the rem is made better i had one of the first 835 made and killed a lot of turkey with it and some that I shouldn't have.i want that gun back.I have a 870 shur shot and will admit it seems better made.My buddy had a problem with his 835 this year that I had the same problem with my old 835.the pin you push up to unload the gun if you don't shoot would stick and he couldn't lock the shell into the chamber. He hasn't shot that gun but a few times and he didn't know what happened.I had to pry it out so that his gun would lock so that it would shoot.not a good thing to try to fix in the woods when a bird is on its way. :D

I like my 835 I got it is a older one just looking to get me a new turkey gun may go with a remington can't go wrong with a 870 express I don't think

Since ur trying to decide between 835 or 870 I'd say go with the 870 supermag. That way u can shoot a 3.5 since the 835 will hold 3.5

I hear the Mossy's kick like a mule. If they kick worse than my 870 I want no part of it. I've been told that Mossy's come from the factory with lengthened forcing cones so they pattern better. I'm not sure if that's true or not.

I don't think either is true. They both kick and pattern about the same depending on shells and choke.

I also would go for the 835. Mine kicks nicely- especially with the 3.5" shells. The location of the safety on the MB is better for lefties.

never been an issue with the 870.

You can buy a lefty conversion.... right from Remington if I'm not mistaken.... I have seen it in a book somewhere.

i thought about that but when i put the saftey off with my right hand it clicked and i don't want that figured if i had the left hand safety it would click too.I can't be happy ask my ex wife. :D

I have both. I like my 835, but the 870 is my overall favorite when I'm shooting ANY type of game. I would probably take the 870 3" over my 835 3 1/2"

Neither.

My preference is for an automatic over a pump gun.

How many times have we heard it's often the "little" things that matter most? I've yet to see a pump that doesn't have some "rattle" noise while carrying, or sometimes when you just shift your position on an incoming bird. They can make enough "rattle" noise to spook game (like turkeys).

No problem with those of you who prefer a pump, but they're not my gun of choice, at least for turkey hunting or hunting anything where that "rattle" noise might spook the game.

That said, the Remington may be a little better quality gun overall than the Mossberg, but not by any huge margin imo. Yet the Mossberg will likely produce slightly more uniform patterns (due to their overboring on the 835 model). In the past decade, I'd speculate more turkeys have been killed by a Mossberg than any other make, that be because more turkey hunters were carrying them, as they have been a good economical choice, and Mossberg was quicker than most to push specialized turkey guns with the rising popularity of turkey hunting.
