Reason l asked, you said won in a raffle, so l figured a new gun. They havent been made for years. I have a mint auto, as well as a mint 96/44 lever. Fine guns. Kinda pricey now.No it's a Automatic made in 68 according to the serial number.
Yeah I looked them up. People are asking crazy prices for it! I've been offered $1200 at work from guys who were in the raffle. I'm more of if I sell it it's gone forever guy. Horribly complex, very expensive rifles to make. If Ruger was smart, they'd update/simplify the design and start up production again. Very handy little rifles. If going for a bear I might check into some hard cast ammo, very nice rifles, not sure why they stopped making them
A prob the 96/44 had, the lever, was the stock cracking around the neck of the stock due to recoil. The autos didnt have it. I guess due to locking pressure differencesHorribly complex, very expensive rifles to make. If Ruger was smart, they'd update/simplify the design and start up production again.
