63 gr IMR 4759 with Hornaday 250 gr sst....
You shot that load and lived?

That would have been quiet an overload wouldn't it...I guess dyslexia got the better of me and all these numbers bouncing around in my head came out wrong...

I shot IMR 4198 66 gr...

I shot the right load and typed it wrong..

I've got loads from Wakeman, and 8 pages of loads from Doug's message board and carefully double check both before I load, but if I don't have the info right in front of me when I type, the numbers get screwed up..

Believe me, I'm double checking what I put in the barrel if not wht I type...

I was thinking 66-75 gr of any smokeless powder would be a lot so I checked it several times.

42-47 gr of 4759......66-75 gr of 4198...Big difference...

This may have something to do with Remington wanting to keep their new ML as a smoker...It would be easy to put the wrong thing in the barrel...

As I said earlier, I'm brand new at this. I really appreciate all the suggestions I've seen on here. I want to try some of the loads I've seen mentioned, but will be double checking them with Doug's board just in case someone else got the powder numbers mixed up when posting...

I'd like to try some VV N110...but haven't been able to find it yet...everyone seems to like that powder...40-46 gr is what I've seen with it...

The savage load max is listed as 44.5 for n110 .got my crony & when i get time im going to run the 240g xtp up a notch or 2 & see how fast it will run without pressue problems

don't get caught up with to many powder unless what you start with don't work. use the powder you have now until you get all the basics down on smokeless. most loads will give you d.o.a. out to 200yds.

Not yelling at you or scorning you but ANY load info you post needs to be double checked before you post it. Mistakes happen but in the world of smokeless MLs mistakes can cause big problems.

This also needs to be a lesson to new comers, always check posted loads with tested book loads. Lets all be safe gentlemen.

All I've got is IMR 4198 and a few different weight bullets to shoot with some black mm something or other sabots that were recommended...I'll probably wear myself out shooting the IMR I've got before I consider anything else...

I understand what you're saying and it won't happen again...

Obviously, I only shot a recommended load, but in my attempt to share, got the numbers wrong on the powder type, I see where that could have been tragic to someone who copied my mistype.

I've been careful so far to read Wakeman's recommendations and some of the posts on Doug's Message Board, but from what little I've seen from the gun's performance the lower recommended posted loads will do fine for what I want.

pay close attention to the stuff on Dougs, not so much to Wakeman. he wants to make everyone believe he is a smokeless guru and likes to blow his own horn LOUDLY.
My finding with him show otherwise..

the IMR will work, pretty much a trade off with H but most savages like the .458 bullets better which means you will likely shoot the hornady FTX or the barnes original

I use Teflon tape on my plugs and it saves a lot of mess with the antiseize plus you get a better seal. a dab of antiseize on the vent liner threads and tapered face will stop them from sticking in the plug

also I have lots of Lehigh vents that I can put you in that I will likely never use, a short drive south and I can hook you up..

Finally got the scope mounted and shot at the range yesterday. First 3 shots at 50 yrds were grouped within 1". Had to leave early but loved the way the gun shot. Let barrel cool quiet a bit between shots. Love the way it shoots. Got some other bullets to try, but happy camper so far...

AA5744 44gr with Hornady 250gr SST 452 cal in blk mmp sabots...

got some plinker loads 240g ,going to make a shield for the crono & see what they can doo speed wise

AA5744 44gr. 250gr SST is a great load if you have some Hornady 250gr. XTP .452 and short blk mmp sabots try them they seem to group a little tighter for me.

I think I got a 10 unit sample pack of the Hornaday 250 from Arrowhead. If not I'll get some ordered and try em...thanks...

Doc, just make sure your bullet/sabot combo is a nice snug firm fit and firmly seated. That helps consistency. I could never find 250gr xtp's, and quit looking, maybe they are back by now. I used flex-tip hornadys and finally found a decent load. A cool gun I need to pull out and shoot soon! Enjoy!

It may sound too heavy but I shoot Hornady .458 FTX 325 grain bullets with orange MMP sabots in my Savage ML 10. It is extremely accurate all the way out to 200 yards. I have killed several deer and they never go more than 50 yards before piling up.

I shot light bullets for a long time with dismal results. Once I went to a heavier bullet I have seen my groups shrink considerably. I hope the info helps.
