Scope Question

I know this has been talked about on here adnauseam but I can't find the discussion tonight. Long story short I missed a doe this evening and cut white belly hair off another. Haven't and won't confirm for a few days but I'm 99% sure my scope has been "bumped off". This is a recurring issue for me seems like. I rarely ever make it through the season without bumping one off. Admittedly I'm pretty rough on my rifle(s) but I'm tired of this being an issue. That being said are there any scopes out there that will hold a zero even if they are abused? And if so, what are they?

My only requirements are minimum 14x magnification and a simple Z plex or similar, simple reticle. Cost probably won't be factored in to this purchase when I get to that point.

I beat the heck out of my deer rifles and they are topped with vx3s.

They are on picatinny rails with higher end vortex or badger rings and they never get 'knocked off'.

The only one I had trouble with was a couple years ago zero would shift as the objective housing was loose. Sent it back to leupold and they fixed it right up

The problem isnt the scopes if your using legit vx3's , its your bases or rings. My buddy drug in a vx3 he got at a bargain😁 wouldnt hold zero and sure enough it was a Chinese nock off😂 i would be changing bases and rings if its an authentic leupold

Guess I'll be swapping rings and bases then. I actually had Leupold replace the scope a few years back for a different issue. And I've checked the torque on the rings and bases and that isn't the issue either.
 
I know you said Vx3, but is it the old version or the new Vx3 HD version? if its the HD version you are not alone in this. There are a BUNCH of posts on rokslide of people having the same issue. Rifle just riding in the back of the truck or strapped to a backpack hiking in and the scope comes out of zero. I am not saying its a common issue, but its a very reported issue with that model specifically

Older one I believe. It's V3Xi
 
There's a lot of threads out there of leupold failures. Wouldn't surprise me at all if it failed. But, rings are another part of the equation. Not saying you did or you didn't, and I've been guilty, you spend a bunch on a rifle, nice scope and buy junk rings. Hope you get it figured out.

I'd like to know how much changed from the last of the vx3i and the new vx3hd. Lots of reports of failures from all lines of leupold in the last several years.

I'm definitely guilty as well. The rifle was a Christmas gift years ago, so I honestly have no idea what the rings and bases are other than they are 2 piece. I've been looking around this morning and haven't found a whole lot of options for an ABolt. What would you recommend?

I have the steel Leopold "dove tail" base, you have to turn the front ring into the mount and the back one has screws on each side and steel Leopold rings on my browning bar II. I had the same set up on
a bolt a few years ago
I wish I could find a double dove tail but I've never seen one
 
Spend the money on a good rail and good rings. I am not sure who all makes rails for Abolts but I would look at Seekins or Nightforce for a rail. For rings, minimally Warne Maxima but again, I defer to Seekins on rings as well. As for a scope, I take Trijicons and Zeiss's to CO every year which means a ton of time in the truck and then getting carried a bunch of miles in the field and have never had one lose zero. Even fell down a mountain and rolled over three times with my rifle on my shoulder and the Zeiss was dead on.
 
There is a guy on youtube that puts scopes through a guantlet of normal stuff that happens to guns . At the end of the day, there are VERY few that hold perfect zero when dropped and banged around in a truck.

That said, most only moved 1/4-1/2 MOA.

You are talking about being off what, 6 + inches? Something is wrong and I'm not sure it's your scope. But maybe.

I have 3 primary hunting rifles. On those are a Mueller 4-14X, and Athlon BTR Helos 2, and a Vortex Diamondback.

I've never had to adjust any of them outside of the initial sight-in. They all have ballistic turrets.

The riding in a truck losing zero is more concerning than a solid bump. But a slip and fall is likely to happen at some point and everyone should want their equipment to work as designed. As you said, most don't that.
