Scope Question

Spend the money on a good rail and good rings. I am not sure who all makes rails for Abolts but I would look at Seekins or Nightforce for a rail. For rings, minimally Warne Maxima but again, I defer to Seekins on rings as well. As for a scope, I take Trijicons and Zeiss's to CO every year which means a ton of time in the truck and then getting carried a bunch of miles in the field and have never had one lose zero. Even fell down a mountain and rolled over three times with my rifle on my shoulder and the Zeiss was dead on.
That's the kind of durability I am looking for and willing to pay for.

No. If you hit a scope hard enough, you can either damage it, or move it in the mount. No matter who made it and no matter how much you spend.

I'm going to save you some money.....Be more careful. ;)
A broke scope is one thing, knocking the zero off on every little bump is unacceptable

I know this has been talked about on here adnauseam but I can't find the discussion tonight. Long story short I missed a doe this evening and cut white belly hair off another. Haven't and won't confirm for a few days but I'm 99% sure my scope has been "bumped off". This is a recurring issue for me seems like. I rarely ever make it through the season without bumping one off. Admittedly I'm pretty rough on my rifle(s) but I'm tired of this being an issue. That being said are there any scopes out there that will hold a zero even if they are abused? And if so, what are they?

My only requirements are minimum 14x magnification and a simple Z plex or similar, simple reticle. Cost probably won't be factored in to this purchase when I get to that point.
I've been using a Leupold 4.5x14 for years now. Never had a Leupold scope "Bumped Off" Target.

That's very true. But he didn't ask about every little bump did he?

He said he's rough on scopes and wants to know if there are scopes out there that can hold zero even if they are abused.

They answer to that is no. Everyone with experience with scopes knows that. If you have one that you think would hold zero with abuse I'm sure one of the forum members close to you would volunteer to show you just how wrong you are. 🤣

I've got a handful, that I personally believe would handle the abuse he puts his equipment thru. People just can't handle the fact that most scopes need babied. But I'll tell you what I'll do. You get your scope and rifle, and I'll bring mine. We can shoot a 10 shot zero. Abuse them however you see fit and keep checking for shifts, shooting until they lose zero. Come back here and report it. I'm pretty confident in my stuff. Are you?

I get your what your saying and agree to a point on it. However there is a reason certain brands and models are popular and are held in high regard and others in the last few years have really taken a hit (like Leupold in the VX3 line)

Obviously there is no magic scope that will take any abuse you can give it, but there are plenty that can take and do take normal abuse and are fully functioning and holding zero after it. Talk to western hunters that pack in for days on end and their stuff does get abused and knocked around and in the end still hold true. A gun riding in a truck for falling over after being leaned against a tree and losing zero isnt something someone should EXPECT from a quality optic IMO. Sure a rifle falling from a stand or down the side of a cliff or landing barrel up on a rock is a different story but I definitely dont "baby" any of my optics and they have held true over the years.

I will never own a brand or model that has a good number of reports of it just losing zero with daily use. Once I lose faith or confidence in an optic its just not worth it to me to roll the dice I will get one thats in that 5% with an issue.

but again to your point, no scope is made to just be flat out abused and expect it to be fine in the end.

There's a huge difference in using your equipment and flat out negligence. I don't know who you referred to about the YouTube videos but I follow the rokslide tests pretty close. Simply riding in the truck and a loss of zero is ridiculous for any brand, but seems very common. Some people don't get it.

That's who it was. Couldn't remember his name!

After reading through the rokslide forums one more time, it's pretty clear that there are only 3 companies that make scopes that repeatedly survive rough handling. Not to say that there aren't other one offs.

Night Force, Trijicon and SWFA.

I'm just having trouble finding one of those that has at least 14X magnification with a standard plex reticle.

I will say though that while I don't make it a habit of dropping my scopes, I haven't had any issues with the Athlon line. But rokslide wasn't impressed.

The closest that I know of is a 3-12 Huron
