Scouting?

Really overcast, 65 deg, no wind.

Back to my lease... 1st spot I checked has a bird absolutely hammering on the limb! 1st time I heard him my pulse jumped 50bpm.

Left him and drove 3/4 mile away to another spot. And ANOTHER bird gobbling on the limb, although less vocal than the other one (7 or 8x so far). I've heard more gobbles this morn than I did the entire season last year here. May have to have the 14 yo miss school opening day if weather is good :)

Yesterday was my first day out. I got in on about 50 birds. Mostly hens several Jake's and 3 strutters. This morning I got in on about 30 birds. Hoping one or 2 hang outs at the first spot like they usually do for juvi.

Lots of comments about gas prices affecting scouting... gonna be over $4 per gal next week.

When gas hits $4.50 per gallon by April, will it affect how much you actually hunt?

For me, not a bit. I'll just cut back on other areas.
Almost all my spots are at least 1 hour drive some 1.5.. Its going to hurt bad especially since I drive a lot for work anyways..

This morn spot 3 and 4 were blanks. Went to the opposite side of the lease on a long powerline to listen and watch, had a tom come out following 4 hens. Totally different bird than the other 2 I heard this morn. Most birds I've heard/ seen on a single day ever in MS

Won't hurt my Turkey hunting but I can for sure say it will hurt my Bass fishing, filling up a 50 gal boat and a 26 gal truck now a days sucks!
