I just realized opening day for some states is on a Sunday. Seems crazy to me but I guess they're used to it. I'd miss opening day every year

It makes no difference what day of the week it opens for me as long as the length of the season is the same.
I am retired now but when I was working, I would take vacation no matter when it opened. If I could not get time off, I would just go whenever I could.
BTW, I worked in maintenance so I was scheduled at least every other Saturday and every fourth Sunday.

I've always had to work 7 days, just not all day. Not skipping Church to hunt and I get my stuff done early Sunday morning so I can make Church. I'd be completely out if Tennessee started this.

For simplification sake I wish states would pick a day on the calendar and stick with it (population issues and structure changes aside). KY should make it the 12th or 15th of April.
If it comes in on a Saturday, great. If it comes in on a Wednesday, I'm going to take off work & be in the woods. If you can't take off I am Sorry you wasted all your PTO going to Dollywood or you have a job without that flexibility but there will still be turkeys on the weekend.

I appreciate not wanting to miss church but I look at it like this- theres 52 Sundays in a year, if I use 12 of them for duck & turkey hunting and he has an issue, him & I can rectify that on judgement day. To be honest, I find I pray more during hunting season. Plus I rarely have felt as close to God sitting in a church house, as I do sitting in his creation watching the world wake up. But that's just me-

Yeah I see your point but opening day is less important to me. There was a couple years in a row that opening day was raining and cold so I didn't go. Back then AEDC was open the first Saturday, Sunday, and Monday of season. I really liked that Monday

Right on. I get all stir crazy and just can't stand it.
Although, to your point I did miss opener a couple years ago when I was coming off a bout of something and it was cold and nasty out. Think it might have snowed some that weekend even.
