Was on my farm in Hickman Co yesterday spraying food plots and trails and almost run over 5 poults on 4 wheeler. I dont usually see them till mid May.

Not out of the question, but I am a little skeptical. If true our birds are hatching way before birds much further south.

I'm sure the man knows what he saw..... I find it hard to believe that several people are so skeptical about others seeing polts...... also referring to the other past threads about this topic.

Sometimes crap happens that is hard to explain.... maybe there isn't any explanation period. With the warmer than usual temps, early green-up, and other variables.... ANYTHING in nature is possible.

I've seen TINY spotted fawns also that couldn't be more than a month old the first week of January. It is what it is, regardless of what think it should be.

Poults in April is just like the moon landing, some people just won't accept it.
We did this thread about 2 weeks ago, nobody has changed their mind since then. They will tell you to ignore the warmest March in over 100 years, the books they read say it means almost nothing, it's photoperiod, period. If you say otherwise, well then, you're lying.
I know what's coming because I read the other thread.

As expected this season SUX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D

wow what a nice way to call someone a liar :D come on man do you think he would start a thread if he didn't really see poults?

If I saw poults I would have taken a picture, we all have cell phones with cameras, and I don't know anyone who doesn't have theirs on them all the time, including people who are in the their late 70's.

Show the pics. If you are going to claim something radical like poults in basically mid april, you better show proof.

No where else is anyone reporting poults, yet somehow in TN there are multiple poult sightings.

I see reference to threads from a few weeks ago, weren't those the same threads where people claimed it would be over before the season started, and we would have the worst season ever? Seems that was wrong on all accounts.

If I claimed I killed a bird with 2" spurs this morning, but had no pics, I would hope someone would call BS on me.

People claim to have seen bigfoot, but yet there is no picture to back it up as being factual.

Show some pics, and I will eat my crow.

I am not calling him a liar, that is a little harsh. I am questioning whether they were poults or not.

It doesn't surprise me that your dad saw them at lbl that late, we documented many many late clutches while I was in school, and some as late as September. That is far more likely than a super early clutch, and with thousands of man hours studying these crazy bird we never once have documented a clutch of poults earlier than May 1st, and most of our work was done in Southern Miss.

ok so your just questioning his sanity then lol not hard to know if you saw poults or not imo :D

Ha, you would be surprised what people think are poults.

I got a call in college to come help "relocate" a clutch in a ladies flower bed, when I got there they were baby bunnies, and her husband the avid turkey hunter of the family asked her to call the university to get some help.

The author of this thread stated early this spring that a hen can store "semen" for years. Which is incorrect.

Not sure what part of the country you live but theres no cell service at my farm. On top of that running a 4 wheeler with gloves on and running up on flying animals and having enough time to dig in a pocket get the phone on camera mode and then snapping a pic before they fly off is impossible. Not only that I wouldn try just to convience a moron of what I almost run over. I usually dont see them on any of my farms till afer mid May so it was very unexpected. But I do recall last year looking at some property to buy seeing poults in late July or early August and I thought that was abnormal as well. Sorry no pics of them either. Also seen a naked woman last night ...yet again no pics so I guess it didn happen!!! I cant imagine the hen that walked all the way around my 4 wheeler making sure her babies were all safe was keeping a safe eye on baby rabbits, or baby mice.

If I can find the book its written in I will tak a pic of that for you.

i carry a video camera and a canon rebel around my neck when i'm riding around on my 4-wheeler at least in case i see something cool. that way i can prove myself on tndeer. :)

what does seeing poults mean? I know its babies but what does that mean for the season?

And they were already able to fly that is quite impressive, that would mean they have been hatched for more than a day or two.

I didn't realize that west TN was it's own ecosystem where animals bred and raised their young at completely different times than the rest of the country.

You can call me a moron if it makes you feel better, personal attacks really don't bother me much.

Like I said, 10 years professionally studying turkeys and we never once documented poults this early in South Miss, heard about it, but no one can ever provide pictures or seem to see them again. Strange how that works....

It means nothing other than that a hen was bred in February, which is highly unlikely.

It could be severely damaging to the population if poults are popping this early with the unstable weather that hits this time of year. Young poults on the ground right now here in East TN would be in serious trouble with the weather conditions.
