Yup I would hate to have a bird hang up just out of range. I don't feel the need to go to the max with the perfect load/choke/gun combination, but I do want to practice my shooting and get more confident. The 3 in 1 shot was a confident shot... now I would like to bring that out to 30 and 40 yards before next season. With an XX full choke it should be possible

Not sure what you are callig XX full choke but I have killed plenty of birds at 50yds with Win Supreme High Velocity #5s. Farthest I have ever killed was with lead shot. Totally mis-judged the distance once in my earlier years however I was shooting a BPS 10ga then..If your choke dont have the constriction on it get someone to measure it for you so you kno what you are shooting. My guess is a .665-.675 as most regular full chokes are .690 or .700 for 12ga.

.670 accu-choke 12 gauge.

I would think .670 would shoot good at 40yds with lead and if I ever wanted to try Hevi-shot or some variation of it I would try that choke first before I bought another. That size choke should shoot the heavier loads and bigger shot well, such as 2oz #4s. Might be a little too open for 6's tho...Hope this is helpful, nothing wrong with shooting lead.

Thanks... just gotta make sure I can shoot consistently at 40 yard before shooting a turkey at that distance. I need the practice

same reason a golf ball does not travel as far in cold temps. Air is thicker. You want to pattern it in hunting temps though...you will get a MUCH better pattern on a 90deg day but not really in the 90's a ton during april.

if it is above 50 and wind is calm you can start there. I try to wait till it is in the 60's as the average temps in april are usually around there.

That was my guess... cold air is denser. Just thought I would ask before making an assumption. Thanks for the advice and I will keep in mind to watch the temps so I can pattern my gun on a good day in the 50s or 60s.
