Shooting faster -vs- taking time

1. I've killed 23 deer with my bow since I was 13 and I'm 26 now with about 5 years of not even hunting, so the "shot at many" is not true. I take that back. I did miss one at 18 yards because he ducked. The shot would have been perfect but the deer instinctivly ducked like most do and I missed. So I stand corrected.

2. 60-70 yard shots on a deer are stupid and should never be taken. You wanna shoot that far get a muzzleloader. Target practice, fine. But I target practice for functionality for deer season, 10 thru 40 and that's it. Anything past 40 I don't even try.

3. When I take longer shots I do agree though, I'll wait a little longer because movement at 10-20 yards is still a good shot (with me at least), same movement at 40 yards and you're off about another 5-10 inches.

Shooting dots is much different than shooting at deer . Most shots in the woods will be far from perfect scenarios where the hunter can get in perfect position from a deer stand . Most shots are from awkward shooting angles or through narrow openings in the foliage .
I have had to hold at full draw for minutes while waiting for that deer to step into a shooting lane , down to seconds when a deer moves quickly into a shooting lane.
There are no two scenarios alike . This will be my 30th bow season and I have made my share of mistakes and misses . I never had an internet forum or bowhunting mentor to turn to for advice . I learned by trial and error , mostly error when I was young .
My advice is to practice in realistic hunting scenarios from awkward positions , unknown yardages , through narrow openings , and only taking one shot at each target from a position .
Also practice holding at full draw for a few minutes , then bearing down , aiming and shooting . Then practice shooting quickly at a deer target from an unknown distance .
Too many guys practice by shooting group after group after group of arrows , all from the same marked distances , and no realistic hunting type shot scenarios .
