at least I can get in the shop and spin some calls for the guys that do. Here are a couple of pics from some bird's eye maple burl I turned and put copper over glass in. One headed to SC and the other IN.

I saw the thread about custom pots and you guys listed some amazing makers and the fact that some don't spin their own or use C&C now. Can't remember who posted that but they are right that is not custom that is gluing a kit together.

Good luck finishing the season hope everyone has had a great one so far not like mine with zip.

That was me making the comment about call "assemblers" not call makers. Its offensive those folks call themselves custom calls. What they make compared to yours are not even comparable. In fact their calls generally are over priced and lack the tone quality that even a walmart plastic pot has.

Gorgeous call you posted.

Do you make any wing bone style yelpers?

I do make wing bones when I can get the bones. I used my hens from last year on the ones I just made. I am working on my wrapping to make them look better but they sound good. I am also working on trumpets and will show them when I can get the sound I want.

Thanks everyone for taking a look and the comments it always means a lot to a maker or at least this one to hear them.

Good looking calls

Who the heck makes "custom" calls from prefab kits?

A booth sold those parts at the NWTF convention. I bought a piece of slate but have nothing to put it in at the time. I just don't use pot calls very much. The yelpers look good, I've never used a trumpet call. Do they sound and handle much like a wingbone?

?

A bunch of folks do this. I could name names, but it would offend a bunch of people and turn this nice thread into a nasty nightmare

I ordered parts this morning and they tried to get me to buy pre turned pots could not get that I don't want each one to sound exactly the same and to be shaped exactly the same. As to who uses kits you would be amazed and to me anyone using a replicator is doing the same thing. Just MHO but if you aren't putting your hands on it it isn't custom. That is what you guys pay for and what you should receive.

A trumpet will do some of the most amazing sounding calls once you learn to run them. Yes they run like a wing bone in the fact they are a suction call but man oh man can they make turkey talk. A friend is pushing me to make them and is helping along the way. Mine are getting close to sounding like something but the mouthpiece is wrong which I can change out as I make new ones to try.

I have had great success with a gobbler wingbone, it's called in most of my turkeys since I made it (spring and fall turkeys too) and they are hypnotized by it.

I've been looking at getting a copper call what do yours run? Also what is the difference in a trumpet and wingbone call

The difference to me at least is a trumpet has a much wider range of sounds but having said that someone that knows how can do amazing stuff on a wing bone. Trumpets also get taken to the realm of artwork very quickly by makers and the cost of them shows it. A fairly nice trumpet for a good maker will start well over $100.

Catman, I wouldn't mind using gobbler wing bones but most guys insist on hen for a couple of reasons so I have to go with what they want. Problem is I can source tom wing bones but not hens.

Yup, good looking calls.

You're not alone though, I got a big 0 on the scoreboard too. I can't remember a year that I didn't kill at least one but looking like that'll change this year.
