Slate vs. Glass

99% of time I use a mouth call/Other 1% I use a box

I usually use mouth call also. But there have been several times when I don't get a good or any response from a bird and I'll use a slate or a box. It seem like the M.A.D slate will usually trigger a gobble. It doesn't work all the time but I have killed two longbeards using the slate. I also have a glass mad by M.A.D that sounds good but the slate still gets my vote of confidence.

Given the choices slate, of all the friction calls nothing ring home like aluminum. When working birds however, I rarely if ever use a friction call, I prefer a diaphragm.

Normally I like the sound of slate better, but if it's windy, I like to use a high pitch glass call to get a little more distance.

Soft purrs and clucks on a slate, while using a toothbrush striker, have been the ticket for me on several hung-up birds.
