Snake Boots

Boot fit is so individual that I would not put much stock in reviews that indicate much of anything about fit and comfort (good or bad) from any review unless they make the case for having a foot similar to yours and bring your approximate build. People have different shapes and lengths of graduated toes, different foot sizes and different arches. People also use different surfaces of their feet different depending on the walking style and gate. Leaking can always be an issue, but if we are talking leather, that all comes down to how you care for your boots with exception of faulty stitching. I think the most important thing is to try a lot of boots on. Unfortunately, hunting stores, even big retailers, often don't have a a lot of great options for these types of boots. Another reason to go with dedicated hiking boot is that you can go to REI and try on 30 different pairs of boots if you wish.

Another excellent point. I mostly look for reviews that mention whether the boots leaked and how durable they are.

I guess I'm lucky. Have never seen the need for snake boots. Avg 30-40 days in the woods each spring, I have only encountered two snakes, and both let me know they were there before I got too close.

They just never cross my mind, other than the few times when I'm crossing a bottom full of knee-high ferns :D !
Those two snakes are why I wear snake boots.

After experimenting with different snake boots, I have concluded that you are best served getting a high quality and well fitted pair of hiking boots (not "hunting" boots) and complimenting them with a pair of snake gaiters. With the current offerings, this gives you the most versatile options for your money since you can wear the boots without snake chaps for non snake season hunting and other activities. You ca. Also take your snake gaiters off when sitting for a long period of time.

I HATE snake boots, and this is the route I take.

I can't fathom wearing those they look hot and like they would strip every inch of skin along the way. Also where i hunt I need ankle support snd those have none

I just bought a pair of Irish setter vapertrek snake boots and will report back when they arrive

Any review on the vaprtrek yet?

I bought some Irish setter vapor tech for this season because of good reviews. I've worn them out some, but they have yet been tested good.

I had a pair of the Danner jackal 2s, they leaked the first season. Other than that, they are very light weight and comfortable

Good conversation here...after a couple weeks of thinking it over, I went and bought a pair of Vaprtreks online today. Drove 40 minutes to the Redwing store and they had nothing in my size. I really liked the look of the Two Harbors hiking boot as well, but decided to go with the Vaprtrek for comfort and light weight, since I'll be walking long ways through the woods.

I'm hoping the 8" is a typo. If not, you didn't get snake boots.

Let me know how they work for you. If they hold up for what you put them through, they are likely worth buying.
will do, I expect a couple seasons out of them, that's what they are said to last. I'm mainly interested in the comfort and staying dry in the wet grass.

I use the guide gear snake boot from sportsman guide. Have for several years. On my second pair. I liked the first pair better, zipper on side instead of front, but still a great boot for the $

I have a pair of the Irish Setters and they are the most comfortable pair of snake boots that I have ever had. They are like wearing a tennis shoe. After the second time wearing them they were completely broken in. They were close when new but a couple places on the ankle needed some attention. They are great.
