Bushwhacking is how I got my start in the turkey woods. I used to shoot 4 per year that way. I got hooked on calling them in, but it is getting tough and I see a couple of "deer hunts" in my future and wouldn't be opposed to finding out if I can still sneak up on one.

As tough as this season has been to me, I am glad the good Lord, after all these years, has enabled me to abide by our self imposed "code", pertaining to Turkey Hunting. To each their own though.

Woodsman-ship is a skill...you had to know where, when and how to sneak, creep and crawl AND then you had to actually pull it all together while remaining undetected. No easy feat...and that's one heck of a bird too.
 
Someone is going to give you a ration for slipping into 50 yards or less on the animal with the best eyes at ground level in this part of the world? As long as it is within the law, hunt your hunt and screw everyone else!

I had more fun slipping into range on a pair of jakes this year and not pulling the trigger than I did calling in and killing my first turkey.
 
Nice! Getting drawn for 5 public land days with a delayed opener is tough, Tully turned to juvenile only the 7th, very difficult year out west.
Heading to Natchez trace this weekend for one final attempt. Let me know any advice if y'all have some for that area this late in the season. Thanks!
