Tried to get man on a longbeard this weekend.
We came SOOOO close on Friday it made me sick.
I could have threw my gun up and popped one of them at 40 yards but I held off trying to get man in position. Just didn't work as he spotted me.
Came pretty close later that morning on some jakes but that didn't work either.
Then this morning we went in after the two strutters we encountered on Friday.
I knew "about" where they were roosting and I was pretty sure I knew the route they would take on the way to the field where we saw them.
Got there just a LITTLE too late and I was scared to go all the way to where I had planned to set up.
We stopped about 75 yards short and went ahead and set up.
About 7:30 I caught some movement and sure enough both stutters were putting on quite a show following some hens around.
I prayed with everything I had but the STUPID hens decided to flank us.
I probably messed up by calling twice earlier in the morning just trying to let the long beards know where we were.
I think the hens flanked us on purpose.
He did get to see his first strutters and he enjoyed it so I rekon it's all good.
I sure did want him, or both of us to get those birds but alas they will have to wait.
Two of the biggest birds I have ever seen and they put on quite a show.
He will definately not soon forget the last two days for sure.
Guess that is why they call it hunting.
What makes me sick about it is they all walked and strutted RIGHT by the EXACT location I had originally planned to set up.
Guess I should be happy that I had the right plan and just get up earlier next time.
