Why do they not allow hogs to be taken during Small game and turkey season on South Cherokee WMA,they claim they are not game animal, also how much is the fine for killing one during this time.

i would suspect that it might have to do with ammunition normally used for those species might be marginal or inadequate to cleanly kill hogs at other than very short range. and they aren't gonna let folks carry slugs "just in case".

Right across the state line in Georgia they are legal to take during any hunting season. That's the reason I bought a 22 magnum

I guess I don't know lol
I wouldn't recommend it because it could create a barrel obstruction but it basically turns a shot shell into a slug by cutting the hull "almost" into the wad, therefore sending the load without spreading IF it makes out of the barrel. Good way to remove your face or hand!

Yeah that never crossed my mind. I squirrel hunt with a 22 magnum in the national forest just in case.

Killed in south Cherokee this weekend

That's awesome. I would love to figure out hogs in that WMA as it is the closest one to me with a decent population. Any tips for a newbie are appreciated.
Cover lots of ground. I've been all over that area and pretty much always find hog sign. Go deep and far, stay up top. Don't get discouraged if you don't see pigs at first just stay after em. Pick a trail and go. Sit over saddles and find oaks this time of year

i've seen them all around Indian Boundary Lake, lots of rooting sign too. this is normally in early season though. after it gets cold, most sign i've seen was WAY up in headwaters of creeks/small springs. you have to be careful, it's easy to end up in GSM park if you just keep moseying uphill...
