Split Grip vs. Traditional

After years of avoiding them like the plague because of the way they looked, it is almost unavoidable now for anything, whether spinning or casting, unless you want something substandard or spend over $100. Thoughts? Any real advantage of the split grip?

I used to not like them, but now it's all I use. I'm not sure there's a lot of advantage, but it feels more comfortable to me.

I'm just glad to know I wasn't the only one that avoided them like that. :D

Getting more and more used to them though.
Heck, I even got a bream rod made like that now. :D

Re: Split Grip vs. Traditional

If you are old, the split is impossible. Very uncomfortable and fad-ish,has no fishing plus/minus and does not add or reduce fatigue or musculature/skeletal strain. So it is just a new look to sell more tackle.
AND
I think it is there so young under-muscled folks can use two hands & cast further than the boat length.

Re: Split Grip vs. Traditional

they suck butt pretty much for me and uncomfortable unless you have womens size hands. just one more section that could get cracked. kind of hard to forearm grip a big fish while trying to net it. i had the fighting butt come off a cheaper rod so i recorked it.
