As some of you know, I only routinely guide for crappie in late winter/early spring. I transition to targetting primarily catfish in mid-April. For the last few years I have maintained detailed records of my clients' Spring crappie catches. This year, while the total number of legal-sized crappie caught (412, blue bars) was way down due to fewer trips (Corona virus and lousy weather), the "fish caught per hour" (5.84, orange bars) was excellent, actually the best we've seen since 2017. Of course the "fish per hour" is a far better reflection of the quality of the fishing rather than overall numbers.
So far the catfishing has been lackluster. We're catching some quality fish, but not big numbers. But water flow is stabilizing (as long as the rain lets up) and things should improve dramatically soon.
Our bass guides are putting the smackdown on them. The last couple of trips out clients caught 30-40 bass each trip, including some good kickers!
