Every year, I spend several spring weekends camping and turkey hunting. Sometimes it's solo, other times it's with others. I was wondering if there would be any interest in getting together for a group hunt with other members of tndeer? I was thinking about something around the third weekend of the season that way everyone could hunt their favorite spots the first couple weekends. This wouldn't be something real organized; actually it wouldn't be organized at all beyond reserving a few camp sites. Since I live in East TN, I was considering Big South Fork as a central camping area. There is probably over 100 thousand acres of public land within an hours drive time of here and BSF can be hunted itself. These are big woods and mountain turkeys.

I'm not looking for any commitments, just wondering if there would be any interest or better ideas.

I wasn't sure if the turkey forum would get much traffic this time of the year. I'm glad to see at least a few people have shown some interest.

I'm wanting to put something together for the social aspect of hunting as well as giving some folks an opportunity to hunt an area that they typically wouldn't think to do or are intimidated to try it alone. Having it in a nice camping area also gives anyone hunting the ability to take a hot shower at the end of the day. Between the mosquitos, ticks, poison ivy, heat and humidity, having the ability to get a hot shower in the evening is nice. It would also give someone the chance to hunt in areas where turkey hunting is just a small aspect of the hunt. Some examples would be: turkey hunting along a wild smallmouth stream (these streams also have musky and walleye), watching elk feed while waiting for fly down, hunting back to some of the natural rock arches and formations, and last but not least, walking out of the woods and straight into a strip club/porn store. All of these are options and pretty unique to the area.

I'll be in the BSF area anyway. Nicer campgrounds would be Bandy Creek and Pickett State Park. You can backcountry camp as well. There are cabins as well if anyone wanted to spend the money to go that route.

FYI, I only mentioned the strip club because there actually is one. I have no intentions of going there. That stage of my life is long past. I only get XX number of days a year to hunt and plan to take full advantage of them. I don't want this thing to turn into a shat show, so if you've never been away from the wife for a weekend and plan on tying one on, you may want to go elsewhere. However, I have nothing against enjoying a beverage around a fire at night, as long as its controlled.

I'll pass on the strip club scene lol, but I might be in on the BSF or LBL trip.
I'm trying to put together a backpack hunting setup and want to make some trial runs this turkey season. I may do some truck camping also if time allows.

I might be interested. I've never camped so I may be asking a lot of questions from you experienced campers but it is something I've really wanted to learn as I get more and more into hunting. I tried really hard last Spring for a turkey and never got one to come in, this year I plan to finish that unfinished business! April also happened to be a month that I spent almost it's entirety in Texas for work travel, that one stung a bit as I missed a lot of great fishing as well. So, depending on my availability and the drive, put me down as a tentative. Spending all day in the woods chasing turkeys and sitting around a fire at night doesn't sound bad.

!!!!!!!??????????????????

Come on out this spring. I'll be posting more about a group camp/hunt in a few months when we are closer to the season. If for some reason that weekend doesn't work, PM me and some of us may be camping and hunting another weekend also. I do several camp/hunts every turkey season so joining some of us another weekend wouldn't be a big deal. There will be no guarantee that you would learn anything.

I doubt that! Just going with people who are experienced will teach me a lot. Hopefully I'll have a chance to do that. I do have some public land woods I found that last season had gobbles coming from all directions, I just couldn't get one to come my way. That place is first on my list this year. Once I get one from there, hopefully, I'd be interested in exploring other woods and camping with a group.

Im down! I might be staying in my VIP suite at the strip club, depending on my dollar bill availability but I can come over and hang out between songs.

I would be interested in this as well. Would love to hunt in some new, to me, areas.

In the next couple weeks, I'll start putting something together. I'm still thinking on doing this the third weekend of the season. This may or may not work for some. I've found out by doing similar trips on fishing forums that if someone doesn't just set a date and run with it, there's a good chance it will never happen. I would think the third weekend would be best because it gives everyone a chance to hunt their "home" turf before going out to explore. Although, for some of us, this is where we go to hunt.

I'm glad to see some interest in this and hope to get to meet some of you.
