But rut was probably a small part. Deer we know well. Past last yr. Figured he blow up this yr- he did. Went off cams mid november and just came back. Hard to look at. He should have stayed home- i wouldnt have shot him. But someone did. Reckon he can survive?

Night pic is field behind my house. Day pic is a couple of ridges back

Really hard to tell whether he was hit just above the elbow and the rest of the leg is just dangling (if that were the case I don't think he would have lost that much weight) versus hit in the shoulder with a ton of damage under the hide and the leg is paralyzed.

The former and he will recover just fine. The latter is a coinflip. If he does survive, he won't ever be the same.

I've never seen this pan out good for the deer when they are hit that high in the leg. I'd try to put a tag on him if you can. He's a stud of an 8 point as is, he will probably hold close and not move much. I'd bet he drops his rack early if you don't shoot him.

I think he will recover just fine. Injury will show in his rack if he makes it till next year
My sentiments exactly. He's gonna survive just fine as long he doesn't get hit by a car or a bullet. His rack might not be pretty next season though.
