Hey y'all, what's the best target for broadheads? Read lots of pros and cons about ruining fletching and hard to pull out of target. New to this whole archery thing, and can't afford to learn too many expensive lessons.

A GOOD block style or a Rhino but I shoot very few broadheads at my block. Yes they are harder to pull out and do tear up the target some but I shoot a few practice heads to be sure everything is ready.

I bought a McKenzie traveling block and it is terrible don't waste your $$. By about the 30th shot with my compound the middle was failing now it won't stop an arrow if you hit it there. For my crossbow I have to turn it sideways and shoot the thickest part and my crossbow isn't as fast as what a lot of folks have.

I try to save where I can but a good target might be worth the extra $$ to you.

If I use mechanical broadheads, will my field points be good enough to practice with, and eliminate the whole need for a broadhead target?
Yes, target points will do fine for practice and to recheck the zero of your scope. Even if they don't hit to the same point of aim they should be close. Just note where your field points hit in relation to your broadheads. In other words if your on the money with your broadheads but your field points hit say one inch low and an inch to the right it should be consistent. To check the zero of your broadheads just shoot a field point and if they are shooting to the same point of aim [one inch low and an inch to the right] your broadheads should still be hitting to the point of aim.

A field point target may be too dense for bh's. My bh target consists os a 15x15 (approx) cardboard box with several pairs of old jeans folded up and stack to the front. I usually place a few old hunting/ outdoors magazine behind the jeans for support. This works good for the few shots I take to confirm my bhs are flying true with my field points.

I shoot just a couple of times with my practice mechanical to be sure but as a rule it hits right where my field tips do. But be sure to check.
