I have never missed one that I had worked on for a long time, but I have blown the chance a few times. Nothing like finally getting a bird to commit and only to not get a shot at him(or miss him). Those birds become unkillable after that I believe.

I agree they are almost like big old deer you usually only get one chance.
 
I know how you feel. First time I turkey hunted in 20 years was last Monday. Got a gobbler and was out of the woods by 7:00 A.M. I was on cloud nine. I still had the "skills." Went out two days later, had three very nice birds within 15 yards, but on my blind side. Finally had another one come in at 30 yards, and was the only one I could get my gun on. One of the others started to "putt," and I ended up rushing my shot. Needless to say, I was highly deflated when it flew off into the hollow below. So much for my "skills." Weather permitting, I'll be back tomorrow.
