I'm an old school bowhunter, I've used Muzzy for years and years...but I'm going to the expandable this year...leaning toward the NAP spitfire...I know it boils down to what flies
the best out of a certain set up...but for those of you who do
use expandable's..what type has worked in your opinion for this list.
1. Arrow flight
2. the best cuts and blood trails.
3. Strength and durability.

I shoot Trophy Ridge Meat Seekers for all of the reasons you listed and because if they hit something there is no wondering if the broadhead opened. I know if it hits something it WILL deploy.

Honestly,

I've only used Rage and Razorcuts in mechnicals. The rage head flew better out of my setup, but the razorcut seemed to be more durable in most cases.

You sound a lot like me.
I shot muzzys for over 20 years (and still do).

After studying a variety of expandables (including quite a bit of research on the Rage), I decided the Rage was NOT reliable enough to satisfy me. The Rage is a great head, when it works properly, and doesn't rattle apart in your quiver.

As far as expandables go, the only one I've felt had good enough track record of reliablitly to suit me was the Spitfire. They fly great and make a huge hole, and you can depend on them to work consistently.

That said, nothing will ever be as good a value to someone who knows how to tune a bow shooting broadheads as a quality fixed-blade head. Just a much greater challenge to tune with a 1.5-inch cut fixed blade vs. a 1.5-inch cut mechanical.

My thinking is that more cutting surface (larger hole) is a slight advantage. But don't see how a 2-inch cut 2-blade had advantage over a 1.5-inch cut 3-blade.

Tekan 2-poor design, heads come apart in quiver. Blades NOT durable. Poor choice.

Rage 2 blade- Great head IF you use the o-ring to secure blades. WAY TOO PRICEY but still a good head. VERY SHARP.

Rocker Sidewinder-EXCELLENT head although sharpness can vary so checking the blades IS A MUST.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN GATOR XP- now sold by BPS as Gator XP. EXCELLENT head. Very sharp. No o-rings. Rearward opening blades tha pivot when encountering hard bone. 2 inch hole 2 blade. Cut on contact. Priced about like all others except Rage. FLY VERY WELL.

There are MANY good expandables on the market. NAP spitfire has a good rep with several of my friends.

Just make sure you check sharpness.

Vortex Pro Extreme Broadheads 125 grain (2 3/4" cut). I would never tell you they are the best like some will, but I will tell you I have shot one broadhead for 16 straight years (since I started bow hunting) and recovered 65 out of 70 deer shot in TN with them. Several of my closest friends shoot them and we all have been more than satisfied with them over the years. Best of luck with your choice.

Used 100 Grain Spitfires for years, great head that flies true. I lost one deer I thought was a perfect broadside hit. I use Rage now and have yet to have a deer go more than 50 yards.

the last 2 lost deer i was involved with were hit with rage b'heads. it ain't the broadhead.

I've used Wasp Jack Hammers with no problems. But I go on a lot of guided hunts and most ( almost all ) outfitters will not let you use them. I only shoot Montec G5's now.

Rage

some ppl have bad reviews on them but thats because there in denial :D J/K thats just my personal preference I have shot a deer right behind the stomach one evening because she was still walking and couldnt get her to stop, and was running out of a window. She ran 100 yards off the field and checked out deader than a hammer right then and there!

Thats right its not the broadheads fault that the deer were lost. Its the shooter. If you take any broadhead and put it where it goes then the deer dies.

I use to shoot spitfires and Grim reapers. Killed a bunch of deer with each. But I always tested each broadhead before I knocked it to hunt just to make sure the blades did not stick. Then one day a blade started to stick and was hard to pull out. could be dirt got in it or a twig or something. The rest of the season I worried each time about a blade not opening. Switched to Muzzy.

Rage! they do stay closed in the quiver, fly like a field point, they do open up when they hit the animal, o ring works great, they leave an awesome hole and the animal dies quickly if placed in the vitals.

Never had any problems with Rage

that can be said of ANY broadhead. my miniblasters cut a hole you can stick your arm through and are about 2/3 the cost of rage.

I am not against the Rage because I have never used them, but all of these features that Rage users rave about have been available years before the Rage came out. I have been enjoying these features since 1993 when I shot my first deer with the Vortex expandables I mentioned above. With that said, I still advise any and all bow hunters that shot placement trumps the type of broadhead 10 to 1 any day.

I agree 100% that shot placement is the key with any broadhead on the market.

I did my Rage post after reading another thread and what others were saying about the Rage...stirring the pot.

The only BH I've had a problem with was the G5 Montec, tip bent over after hitting a rib bone
