The Individal Bird That Stands Out In Memory

Can I say all of them?

All hunts are exiciting to me whether I kill or not, which is what keeps me going. But there is one that stands out to me the most that "pisses me off"

I was once hunting some private land that the owners allow several other people to hunt. When I got to the land, there was already a truck at the spot I was planning on going, but it didn't bother me because it is about 900 acres with birds on it everywhere, I just went on down the road to a different spot. Parked the truck, walked up hill, and started listening. As normal turkeys started gobbling here and there and everywhere. Some gobbled relatively close to me so I set down to them. I was sitting, I hear the worst human imitation of an owl hoot ever, not far from me. I immediately turned on my flashlight, shined it on them, and they shined back but kept going. Whoever it was ended up spooking the birds by shooting at them. I believe they were still in the trees.
About an half hour later, still mad, I moved on to some other turkeys that were gobbling and strutting in a cow pasture. I was on the edge watching them, not knowing how to go about getting on them. Then the turkeys sprinted into the woods on the otherside. I look to my left and a hunter is walking straight through the pasture. I assume it was the same one from the early morning.
Everytime I think of this hunt it makes me angry.
I guess everybody has the right to hunt and I am sure he had a permit but we should all be considerate of each other. I would never walk on top of somebody I knew was there for safety reasons and for courtesy. It was almost like he was just following me around.

Best memory so far was last year. Took my son out on the juvenile hunt. His first hunt for turkeys,i was hoping the birds would put on a good show for him. We got to my lease just before daylight. He was still somewhat sleepy, he was seven at the time. We parked facing a big long ridge and as we are about to leave the jeep i stopped to hoot, hoping for a gobble. Their must have been eight or more answer. I looked at my boy and he had a smile from ear to ear. We slipped down to the field below the birds and i set up my decoys. Waited for daylight before we started calling. I was expecting the birds to come in from the left. I had my boy sitting between my legs pointing in that direction. The birds had a different route in mind. They popped out of the woodline to our right about a hundred yards. I waited til they went behind a big briar patch and then picked my boy up and rotated us to the right. The birds had several hens with them so i knew it was a matter of which way the girls went. I would call a little and the gobblers would sound off. I then notice movement to my right and a big long beard was making his way down a small creek not fifteen yards away. He was headed towards the other birds and my son couldn't get a shot on him. That bird got down there to the other birds and stood on the other side of that creek and gobbled. Then two of the bigger birds walked over to him and started gobbling at each other. They must have gobbled over fifty times. Finally the two birds on our side turned toward us and seen my decoys and came strutting in. At about fifteen yards i whispered to my son to shoot . He didn't shoot until about ten yards. Told me later that he was shaking to bad when i told him to shoot. His bird had 10 1/2 beard and 7/8 spurs. We must have heard well over a hundred gobbles that morning. He told me turkey hunting was super easy. One of the best days i ever spent in the woods.

ok I have a couple so I will try to be brief without a doubt hands down was the bird I called for my son two years ago. We got in early and there was a thick fog hangin over the mountain. Couldnt see nothing, well as it lightened up I owled just to see what was happening and the woods came alive as I know we counted at leat 9 birds all around gobbling they were so hot it was not even funny. My slate got a little damp so I wiped a little with sandpaper and he hammered it and kept goingi couls see me sons smile and he was just chomping at the bit to kill one he had killed one the year before his first while I was in Iraq so this would be his first with me, I started just some soft calls and they were hammering you could fill the gobble in your chestm ny sons eyes just brightend up they sparkeled. I was so excited for him so after about an hour of sitting there in the middle of all this it got just a little quite there in front of me then I heard him pitch he landed maybe 70 yards from us I told me boy get ready I called and holy cow right behind us on the ridge above at maybe thirty yards there was a bird that had snuck in he gobbled and my boy bought crapped his pants lol, but there was a thicket behind us and the bird wouldnt come around it so while Im trying to get him motivated to come around the first birt that was in front of us come in on a dead tun and started running into our lap i told him shoot as soon as I could get his neck up but he kept getting close and closer I called at a range of 10 feet he gobbled I whispered hey tom he stuck up his head and boom!!!! I was so proud that I honestly cried I was so happy. Hes killed many more since then bit they have all been at a loss comparing to that one. I guess the second bird that pleased was when I got the prostaff job, I guide for Southern Ohio Outfitters and thethought that someone thought that I was skilled enough to pay me to do what I loved was amazing I was bringin like almost a grand a week in just tips not counting regular compensation. I got a chance to call birds for Tony Stuart, the Vp for woolrich hunting apparel and tons of kids looking for there first bird. I would rather take a child than anyone and if not them then someone who just getting started. I really enjoy pleasing someone. Thanks for all the Post there all great!!
