Well Stated. Saban always did a good job of using the portal WHEN it suited him.

"Now when it comes to Florida State, they've always taken the microwave fix, I call it, to take a lot of guys from the portal," Saban said. "Sometimes that works. Sometimes it doesn't, especially when things go bad. Those guys were all in the portal for a reason. So, now you take these guys out of the portal, things don't go the way they thought they were gonna go, and maybe you don't have the kind of culture and leadership on your team and the people buying into the leadership that you need to be able to be successful. So, this is a real challenge."
 
Saban flip flopping like his name is Kamala. He picked FSU to win the ACC prior to the GA Tech game but is now picking the low hanging fruit like everyone else when it comes to FSU. You don't have to be a college football genius to see that FSU whiffed on several of this yr's portal class.

Saban Retired because he is 70+ . And now he is making 70K Plus working a lot less with a lot less stress. So I doubt it was one single thing that lead him to come to that decision.
