The Vols retired Spurrier

Like I said, no mention of UF in my post. You, a gator, the first to post, is trying to make it about the gators.

Why dont you tell us.

As GnB would say, its not how you start, its how you finish. And ol Stevie quit. A big part of that decision was because he had lost his last 3 games to the Vols.

Apparently he admits that after the Vols came back to beat him 45-42 at home, he basically had PTSD.

He probably didnt use your exact words tho.

South Carolina reporter shares interesting stories from Steve Spurrier's upcoming book

"After losing 45-42 against Tennessee on Nov. 1, he left his postgame press conference without answering a single question and had problems sleeping and remembering the code for his locker and phone numbers later that week. South Carolina's team psychologist diagnosed him with "acute stress disorder" and prescribed him sleeping pills, according to Spurrier.

I bleed orange and was at many of those Vol/Gator games in the 90s. I was as frustrated with Spurrier as any Vol fan, but I never had anything but respect for him. To suggest that UT got into his head and forced him out of coaching is ridiculous. He lived in the minds of Fulmer and many UT fans for a decade, and the opportunistic jabs at UT we're nothing but a mind game he was playing with the UT coaches, players, and fans. I seriously doubt UT ever got into his head.

That post game press conference, sleeping problems and forgetting codes were not from losing to UT. It was about realizing that his career in football was over. The man had been directly involved with a football team in one way or another for 60 of his 70 years. Football was his identity and his passion. What other kind of effect would that realization have on anyone in a similar position?
