Get further inland, away from the water, and I don't know anything turkeys fear more than an eagle. A strutting Tom 100 yds plus out in a field doesn't have a chance, if an eagle wants to kill him.Yep right on the river. I used to suspect the eagles would run off the turkeys but they will roost right close to the eagles, strut under them and pay them no attention.
I suspect around major water, the eagles just find other things easy & plentiful.
Interestingly, until a few years ago, turkeys in my area didn't seem to pay much attention to coyotes. But now, it's obvious coyotes have "evolved" to focus more specifically on targeting turkeys. Same for bobcats. Same for eagles.
Used to rarely see coyotes and bobcats during mid-day. Now it's often, and they're nearly always obviously hunting turkeys. Used to never see eagles away from the water either. Now they come inland to hunt turkeys.
