still seeing a group of 8-10 jakes and 3 toms all still grouped together. the toms dont look small either and somehow will still let the jakes strut from time to time. Just weird seeing that many jakes running with 3 toms together at this point.

How many hens around? If you have some, they are with a really dominant bird, and even 2yo can get pushed so far down on the pecking order they act like jakes. I had 3 Tom's with 6 jakes on me this am. They all gobbled and strutted, but didn't dare get too close to the boss with his 3 hens.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks they are WAY ahead of schedule this year. I actually had a few hens breaking off to lay last week, almost a full 10 days earlier than long term average. Now most adult hens have initiated nests this week. That's a good thing, but there sure aren't many hens for the future.

plenty of hens but not as many as past years. I visually see 10-12 each morning in the same area. Saw a tom with a jake and 6 hens on the other side of the field this morning as well but neither of them gobbled this morning, only this big group of jakes and toms. However that single tom was in full display with the hens

Hens still giving me fits...roosting with tommy, fly down together, and off they go. The other morning I sat down basically in the middle of 5 gobbling birds and hens intercepted every single one before they could get to me.

I don't know if the ate ahead or behind. I just know they are kicking my tail. I've had 7 different gobblers answer me from 600 to 700 yards. I close distance to 150 and never another peep. I'm just sitting here perusing tndeer waiting is one will gobble

This happened a lot to me last week, muddy. One time I actually thought dang it, must have tried to get too close and they saw me and boogered. But as it turned out they were in one big wad and had all just moved off a piece. The timber is so open it's impossible to get in too tight and also pretty risky to get in front of the pack because never 100% sure where they're headed.

I've been erring on the side of caution until they break up some more.

I've seen jakes strutting with dominant birds but usually the gobbling is left to the boss or there's an arse whipping coming. I guess that may be why sometimes when you shoot the dominant bird the jakes all come running back in to pounce on him when he's down. They may figure it will be the only chance they can get some revenge for all the whippings they've taken form him.

My chickens went from 1-2 eggs a day to 10-12 a day a month ago. Turkeys have been breeding for awhile.
How long have your turkeys been laying? I got my first egg a week ago from my eastern wilds, but the chickens started laying daily 2 months ago
