Things turkeys do

Had a one legged gobbler (not Michael Waddy joke) that showed up one fall. He hung out at a big clover plot. One day it was really windy and when a strong gust happened, it would knock him over. After several times of that happening, he learned to put the off side wing down on ground as an outrigger!
Something must have caught him as no one saw him in spring or ever again.

Gobbler hung up in corner of fence in cow pasture bout 80 yds out early morning backed out came back late afternoon to try to get on him again an he was still pacing back an forth in corner of fence probably 6-7 hours

I'd been trying to get a move on this gobbler all morning. He was in the wide open strutting for hens with no clear directions of travel.

About 9:00AM I spotted him and a hen entering some thick stuff so I made my move. As I approached this barbwire fence, I "soft" bumped the hen. Crap. Did I ruin it?

She was on the other side of the fence. So I assumed he was too. I put my foot on the bottom wire to get on her side of the fence. The fence made that creaking sound they do. The bird HAMMERS like 50-60 yards away. I didn't know what side he was on I squeezed through the fence real quick. One soft yelp and I confirm hes coming up the fence right to me, thinking i'm that hen I'd just bumped. He appears at ~22 yards and I shot, bird takes off running, slightly wounded. I roll him the second shot.

I then see what happened my first shot.

Not as crazy as some of the other things in here. But I NEVER expected to have a turkey gobble at me getting through a barbwire fence.

Hunting a national forest in Mississippi opening week one foggy morning. Heard a couple birds off the roost, but fog just got thicker and shut them down. Fog as thick as i've ever seen it while turkey hunting in Mississippi. Finally, about 8:15AM, one of the birds starts back gobbling. I start easing closer. He is right on the property line, possibly across it. Once I think i'm ~125 or so away from him, I lightly yelp and he answers. In the game! I see a better spot to set up about 25 yards ahead. I scratch and soft talk my way to the set up spot. He answers a couple more times. Next thing I know, I hear a racket, and that bird comes soaring HIGH off a hill in and lands about ~40 foot up an oak tree just ~25 yards in front of me. HE'D NEVER FLOWN DOWN!!!

Time of death 9:00AM.

Was after a bird using a wildfire burn full of dead timber. With it being so open, I just couldn't get a move on him. I was about 100 yards away when I watched him walk up to this cliff ledge and start gobbling across the plains. Pretty dang cool to watch, they know where to go gobble so their gobble travels the most distance!!!
