This is just RIDICULOUS!!

Not much here either. I am waiting until turkey season is over then may start back coyote hunting. to many people moved in around here, kill ground hog hunting. I had some luck 1st of year got 3 song dogs 2 bobcats miss 1 fox. I like shooting paper and working ups loads for my guns this time of year.

This is one thing I would like to see changed hunting coyotes at night.

They did it in Ky and i think there will be more deer poaching because of it. I wouldn't wish for it in Tn. I do 95% of my hunting in Ky and wish they'd do away with hunting them at night.

People who are going to poach will poach no matter what. Letting us hunt coyotes at night will not change that one way or the other. I just don't see that excuse of not doing it holding water.

I hunted coyotes at night and really enjoyed it.

What are they poaching???

Look at the dates night hunting is allowed, Feb though May. There are no bucks with racks out there unless they are really able to keep them.

Coyotes howling at night over here and I can't touch them..
Took me 4 days to find ONE ground hog to shot.
Anybody got something to shoot over your way?

I feel your pain on the groundhogs. They have always been my favorite animal to hunt but they've been gone for years now because of coyotes. People always say "Just hunt the coyotes" but it's not the same kind of hunting and I miss the pure rifle shooting skill involved with shooting groundhogs.

groundhogs have came back a little just on roadside. Seems to be a house in every field now. This is one form of hunting that has passed,we will only be able to tell our grandkids about it. I remember a hillside I would climb up setup look over huge fields that was planted with beans or other crops, set for hours shoot hogs and crows now houses are there no crops gone forever!! I ran into a buddy at sportsman warehouse today he was excited about a new 204 barrel he just got,he said he was going to make a lig

sorry hit submit button. he was going to make a light walking around groundhog gun sad thing about that we both knew there wasn't anywhere he could do that.

I know how you feel, 260rem. I love to shoot the 22 centerfires and groundhogs are the reason for that but I never get them out of the safe any more. One in particular makes me sad that I never really got to use it for what it's intended for. It's a Ruger Number 1 in 218 Bee. A great walking around ground hog rifle. Another is a Remington 700 Mountain rifle special run that was chambered for the 221 Fireball. Both of those rifles just got to be used for a couple hogs each before the hog numbers got too low to hunt.

I have seen a somewhat comeback in hog numbers too in recent years the same as what you are observing. There are a couple living in the yard now. I'd love to try a shot at one of them with my Marlin 32-20 just to see how the varmint hunters before my time did it but it don't feel right shooting them when they are so scarce. It seems that they never last more than a month or so before they vanish. :(

I haven't tried a 204 yet but a couple friends have and it looks impressive. Should make a great walking around rifle that would zap a hog stone dead at any distance I would EVER have a chance of hitting one without sandbags! :)

Hunter 257W they have been a couple behind the house and vanish, I know no one killed them may been dog or coyote. I wish you could use those rifles both sounds sweet. I got a fireball in a 10" and 23" contender. The 221 fireball is one of my fav.

Since nobody is posting here anymore, I guess they are not hunting.
Well, I just popped a ground hog this morning, weighed 17 pounds.
It was HUGE!! First one of the summer.
The fields are being cut at last and they are visible again.
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy...!!!

17 lb's is a Boone & Crocket hog! :) As 260Rem says, what gun, load, distance? Groundhog hunting is all about the rifles and shooting.

One of my two "Yard" hogs has disappeared already. Last weekend I noticed trails coming from a hole under the barn out into my alfalfa field, so there is another one around. Could be one of the Yard residents has relocated. I just can't bring myself to shoot them though.

That fireball is a fun round I have one in a 700.

Yeah, it's amazing how much velocity you can get with such a small amount of powder, isn't it? No recoil at all.

I don't take a camera with me when I hunt. The same reason you don't see people that have been shot on the news.. respect I guess.
It was about 7:30am that morning and the sun was already warm. Just setup on side of 50 acre newly mowed field and she just came out of the brush about 10yds and started to feed. It was about 50yds with a Savage .17HMR, 17gr V-Max, 3-9X-40mm scope set at 5X. She took it in the heart and fell backwards. I weighed it with some fish scales I keep in the truck. I have a dump site I take my kills to.
Just rained pretty good with a little hail in it, so I'll get down to the fields and look see if they are going to come out this evening.
