I saw this today on the Mississippi turkey hunters FB page.

There is so much wrong with this I dont know where to begin. That person is an idiot who understands neither turkey hunting nor ballistics. Using TSS 5s for turkeys is stupid. Even if your goal is max kill range at all cost, 5s are not even close.

Also, that wing was absolutely not "blowed off" from 97 yards. The pellets would have enough energy to kill a turkey at 100, but pattern density would be terrible so it would be 1-2 pellets finding the neck/head if you were moronic enough to try a shot like that.

Far more likely that jackass crippled a turkey shooting to far, chased him down, and shot him again at close range. But what he is implying in his post is not possible.

Yeah that's the new era that we share the woods with. I don't think it's even possible but shows the mindset of kill at all costs.

That's part of the reason I like lead loads...not because they're better, they're not...they make you get closer to the bird. And they're cheaper

Farther than some have killed deer with a rifle.
That must have been a fun hunt. Not!

They're cheaper, no doubt. But they dont make you get closer. That's just mentality. A lot of people use TSS in sub-gauges. My first three turkeys this year were killed at 20, 15, and 12 yards. One with a .410. Not everyone uses them as a crutch. As a handloader, I hope people dont lump everyone who shoots TSS into the same category as the chithead who made that FB post.

Just had a thought maybe they will legalize rifles for turkey next year!

I was referring to 12 gauge since that's what most people shoot. I can understand using a heavier smaller pellet in smaller gauge shotguns. Heck I dont have anything against TSS in a 10 or 12 gauge, it's deadly, only problem is it gives the jack legs more reason to stretch their shots farther and brag about more pathetic kill shots

I agree that it plays into the hands of googans who just want to kill a turkey at any range and will brag about how far they kill them. And since those people are the loudest and most prominent on social media, I guess it's inevitable that TSS will be associated with that kind of jackassery. I much preferred it before TSS was comercially availavle.

Its a troll. He got a rise out of ya'll which was his goal.

Yep, I hear more people brag about longshots, that shoot longbeards than anything, so it really doesn't have anything to do with htl loads.

I dont really agree personally. I have shot hevi shot and TSS in my guns for years and it never changed my mentality of what is an ethical shot an what is not. That all just applies to the hunter and their mentality. I mean LB lead shots brought out a whole new mentality and its lead. I could have shot multiple birds at 55-65yds this year and just kept the safety on till I had a better shot.

It's a shame that turkey hunting has become more about target shooting (with live birds)
than much anything regarding "hunting".
It's just about the kill pic to this new crowd Wes. The hunt isn't important or how you kill it, just kill it to post the pic.

and that is the real issue, not the load. Nothing wrong with wanting the most lethal shell on the market, but you have to use common sense, and unfortunately its not to common anymore.

That does seem to be the mindset of many the younger or newer turkey shooters.

IMO, their thinking is somewhat like a new golfer
simply walking over and dropping the ball in the hole,
then posting on Facebook:

"Hey! Look at ME! I just got a hole in one!"

Dropping a ball in a hole no more makes one a golfer
that does shooting a turkey may one a hunter.
