Thoughts on scopes.

I have a red dot now and like it. I am considering going to a scope so I don't have to worry about making sure the light is on or the battery being dead or something. For me it makes it easier. Instead of having to line 3 things up turkey/front sight/rear sight, you just have to do 2, turkey/dot or cross hairs.

Actually, from an optical perspective, you only "line up" a single optical plane with a scope, whereas you're trying to focus on 3 things with rear sight/front sight/turkey.

My problem before a scope was when the turkey was in focus, my sights were a blurr; when my sights were in focus, the turkey was a blurr. Even got to where if front sight was "in focus", rear sight was fuzzy. The scope solved all my "old man" vision problems.

i dont like the 3 base open sites either. i personally like the single front site with a rib barrel. Thats just where my comfort level is. I can see where a scope would be nice at any distance shot though. past 30yds my bead tends to cover the entire turkey head if not more so that part i can see where a scope would be nice to have even more then a red dot. I just could not do a red dot just simply because of the battery issue. I just KNOW i would forget to turn it off or something and would not know till it was too late.

Both my turkey guns shoot pretty much deadnut with open bead. That's the best way to have a shotgun shoot in my opinion for turkey hunting. If you can't see your target, get your eyes examined and get some new glasses.

I think its just what ever you're comfortable with. I grew up shooting my 835 with the white bead on the end and the small brass bead in the center. I line em up, I pull the trigger. It's not even something I have to think about. I think that is what we all want, right? A system that just seems natural and smooth to us.

bvoss , I agree . You have to get what system fits you. But if your system is having problems dont be affraid to change. If I hadnt started missing turkeys, there would have been no need in changing. I also figured out my gun hates #5 shot. Patterns are aweful with 5's.
