Thoughts on score

Personally, I define my trophy bucks more by a combination of age & uniqueness of antlers (rather than "score"). This one appears to have been a "trophy" buck to me. Never mind that I consider every deer I kill to be a "trophy" including more of them being does than bucks.

Not being able to see the teeth, and based more on the characteristics of the rack (rather than it's size), my best guess is this buck was 5 1/2 or older, easily could have been 6 1/2 (or older). And highly unlikely it was any younger than 4 1/2. That does not rule out the extremely unlikely possibility this buck "could" have as young as 2 1/2.

Like I said, "score" means little to me personally,
but to venture a guess,
I'd guess a gross typical score (not counting the non-typical tines)
of 128.

Nets are for fishing.
And the non-typical tines add immensely to this buck's unique "character",
meaning much more than his score.

I gross scored it tonight and got 143 2/8. I included a guess of 8 4/8 on the missing drop tine. Sorry it took so long. I was really busy this weekend.
I posted the the buck mostly because I knew Id never know what the droptine looked like, then 2yrs later three counties away I run into a stranger that shows me what it looked like. It was crazy.🤪

I gross scored it tonight and got 143 2/8. . . . . Non-typical points grossed 19 5/8
143 2/8 minus 19 5/8 = 123 5/8 Mainframe (Gross Typical Frame)

Again, far as I'm concerned, nets are for fishing.
But B&C official scoring would deduct side by side differences, which might be around 3",
making the "net" B&C score more in the ballpark of 120
if scored as a "typical".

Total gross inches of antler means the most to most us hunters 🙂
So by that, 143 2/8.
