Congrats. I doubled with a young man yesterday that happened to be his first bird. With the way people act on this Turkey forum I think I'll just keep the pics and story to myself.
Why spoil a good thread with this senseless bs?

You know dam well no one is going to attack you or the young man for having success. If you were in a blind works decoys and killed a bird than congrats is all you'd receive and you know that. So why act like a snowflake?

Just because myself and others aren't big on those tactics doesn't mean we are waiting to pounce. For the most part we all speak on a global level and rarely single out an individual kill. It just isn't right to make a poster the focus of a debate that exists. It's happened once this season and I feel terrible for how that went.

I actually thought of you when we killed the birds because we weren't in a blind and didn't have decoys lol. We had just walked to a high spot on my property to listen and within 45 mins they were in our face. I'm not ruining OS2's thread by saying that. Heck he asked if what he did was good enough for some on here. I wasn't even thinking about you when I said that in his post. But some of the ones in the turkey forum are ruthless and suck all the fun out of telling a story no matter how good it is. I did post it in the general forum tho.

Guys dont ruin this thread. Ive killed most of my birds with a crossbow. With any form of archery you need to be able to distract the bird or hide from it or both. As hunters we need to respect each other no matter the techniques chosen.

I want to kill one with either a bow or crossbow. Just need to make myself attempt it. I know another guy that killed one with his bow yesterday. I think he said it was the 10th gobbler he'd attempted to kill with one before it finally happened. Would definitely be neat to do.

There is a particular piece of public land that is archery only and only open in the early season. I've spent a few years chasing turks there and got into a quite a few. No blind and no decoys, only because I didn't want to tote it through the ruthless country. Never connected but had lots of opportunity, the wide open forest before greenup makes it extremely difficult to draw back.
Decoys or not, archery hunting on the ground without a blind is by far the toughest turkey hunting I've attempted.

Hat's off Matt, and anybody that can kill one with a bow and no tent. I've got no plans to ever try it. For a couple reasons. One, I don't think I'm a good enough bow hunter. I could get in front of turkeys, but it's all I can do to keep my composure long enough to shoot a deer from a treestand with a bow - much les a turkey from the ground. And two, I really, really, really like watching their heads fold backwards as they crumple in a heap of majesty. I don't think shooting one with a bow and (hopefully) watching it run off a few yards and die would provide the same soul warming satisfaction.

That's an awesome kill!!!!
I have never had the desire to turkey hunt with a bow. 1st..toting a bow through the woods, with my run and gun style, would be very tiring. 2nd...I think it would be way to hard to turkey hunt with a bow. 3rd...pulverizing that skull with a shotgun is waaaaaaay to fun :super: :super:

Curious to why he thinks they're as easy as killing pets. I rolled into town at 12:30 and been trying to find one all afternoon. Cowhunter if you're that good at it come show me please.

Just curious - other than your own abilities, what does impress you?

You've been on here long enough to know the answer to that. As for my own abilities, 2 days shy of 4 straight weeks of hunting and I have yet to pull the trigger here on my home turf. Turkey hunting by a code can make it real frustrating some years, but I would not have it any other way ;)

I get that. And I support that. But the man killed a turkey with no decoys, no tent, using a bow. But all you had to say was that you're not impressed because it was a "pet." And I gather from subsequent comments that yall aren't buddies with you just giving him a friendly hard time. So, what does it take? Does it have to be killed on public land to meet your threshold for being impressive?

it doesn't matter what it takes to impress Cowhumper. Never seen anyone here actually value his opinion. I wonder if he's as arrogant in person as he is behind a keyboard.
