Tree tubes

I would tube them. Cages work as well for larger trees. As JCDEERMAN mentioned The tubes hold in moisture but let light in like a greenhouse and they prevent rodents from chewing.....only cons would be cost if you are planting large numbers of trees....also, if you hadnt, consider adding a weed mat to reduce competition and mulch to hold moisture.

I should say, I've tubed and matted my chestnuts. So I can tube my oaks and fruit trees the same as I did my chestnuts?
Yes....I have several sawtooth planted in tubes. Planted them as bareroot seedlings that were 16" to 18" tall and within a year or so half of them were to the top of the 4' tube or slightly out of the tube...working good.
