Trolling Motor Problem

I have a Minn Kota Maxxum 70 lb thrust 24V. About two weeks ago the trolling motor stopped working. I pulled it out of the water and put it back in and it started working again. I thought no problem. Well over the past two weeks its gotten progressively worse. To the point were I am having to pull it up and put it back in the water all the time. It works fine then it will cut off on me and I have to pull it up and put it back in the water and it works fine....Etc. Seems like a short. getting good power when it is on. Also, it seems like it works a tad bit better on the highest setting (doesnt cut off as much). Don't think it is the battery.

We had to replace the prop about two weeks ago because the pin was shredded. I am not sure if this has anything to do with it. Any suggestions are what could be causing this? I have no idea about fixing trolling motors but this seems like it could be an easy fix. Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks,

I had the same issue last year. I had to spin the prop to get it to work and got progressively worse. I had to replace the armature and brush kit in the foot. I contacted the guy from bassboatcentral who is the trolling motor guru there and ordered the parts. I had pretty much diagnosed it and knew what I need, and he confirmed that was the issue. I replaced them myself as he told me how to do it. I also watched a YouTube video. Jonestrollingmotor.com is his website.

Yes, Mr. Jones is the man when it comes to trolling motors. He is the one that gave me the advise to check the tightness of the metal jumper strip in my plug when I was having intermitten issues several years ago.

Sounds like something is coming loose and then getting jarred and getting connection again after you lift and lower the motor. Now as for what exactly that may be I am not sure. But id be taking it apart and first inspecting all the connections, both in the switch and the plug
