Ok everyone wanting to build the ultimate turkey slayer? So what is the best gun for y'all guys and gals to put them thunder chicks down with? Thanks in advance!

My old gun has been around a while. I bought it back around '94 and it has done a good job. Its a Mossberg 500 with a Hastings .640 turkey choke . By far the best shells I've found is Win. Longbeard XR 4 shot. It shot good before the Longbeards but, its way better now.

My personal beak busting combo includes:

Benelli Super Vinci
Burris Fast Fire II
Kicks GT .665
Hevi-Shot Magnum blend 3 1/2" #5,6,7 (thinking about changing my shell .... I have been doing too much damage to birds when I pull the trigger)

What is too much damage? Not sure that's possible if your shooting the head and neck like your supposed to.

I love bloody heads and I love getting the blood all over the seat of my pants. I also oy wash my turkey camo after season ends.

No such thing use you plan to do a mount. Ever seen turkey broadheads? They decapitate the head if hit right.

I'm going to "build" a Remington 870 youth 20 gauge this year. Last year I built a 20 ga H&R youth and killed one with the .410 (TSS load).

Why 20ga over 12ga?

I'm happy with my 12 ga 835, SumToy choke, FastFire III and Winchester XRs. (Doubles for coyotes.)
BUT, it sure ain't fun when sighting in.

IMO, the "gun" is the least important aspect of successful turkey hunting.
I'm sure many disagree

Almost any shotgun you already own (with the right shells + modified or full choke) can work just fine.
But I'll 2nd the vote for something in a 20 gauge. :)

I got tired of the recoil. I used 3.5 inch shells for years in my 12 gauge and I'm convinced it has made me gun-shy. I honestly believe it's affected my accuracy with a rifle.

Plus, I like the challenge of bringing them within 45 yards. You don't need a 12 at that distance.
