The talk at church this morning was a guy here in Houston County was shot in the face yesterday while turkey hunting. Supposedly he was sitting in some bushes doing a little calling when somebody snuck up on him and shot him in the face. Another "I thought it was a turkey" excuse. From what I understand, he had to go to the hospital and have shot removed from his face, but not too severely wounded. I haven't been able to confirm, wondering if anybody else had heard about this.

any and every "hunter" that shoots another human mistaken for game should be charged with attempted murder and banned from hunting for life.

X2spot on stik!!!! This violates rule number one of firearm safetyalways identify your target! No excuse in my book if it's true, and I wish a speedy recovery for the victim!

i have been hunting for 30+ years and i have NEVER seen a game animal that looks like a human or a human that looks like a game animal. absolutely no excuse for this.

There was a shooting last week in Claiborne CO. From what I've gathered, a man was using a metal detector when he was shot by a turkey hunter. I have a hard time seeing how someone walking around with a metal detector could be mistaken for a turkey.

You know how those treasure hunters are, all the time struttin around & the detectors make'n those chips & gobble'n noises.............................(sarcasim)

This is part of teh reason & dont deer hunt so much, not try'n to sound full of myself but thers a lotta people who dont have the common sense to deal with the responsablity of a firearm.

I dont turkey hunt , But I thought you had to get close to the bird to put a bead on its head.

You're also supposed to only shoot if the "turkey" has a visible beard. Wonder how movement in a bush could be mistaken for a visible beard.

The 2 best ones, or worst ones, is a guy in Tennessee shot right between the eyes while sitting in a treestand. The guy who shot him, his defense was, I swear, "I thought it was an owl".

Then the one where a deer hunter shot a full-grown horse out from under a 12 year old girl who was riding the horse on her grandpa's farm. So that hunter saw a BIG deer with a saddle and a little girl riding on it's back and took the shot.

I have heard it's much more likely to get shot while turkry hunting, than deer hunting. I have also heard that over the years, that squirrel hunting has produced the most accidental hunting deaths. I guess that goes back many years when squirrel hunting was much more common.

if someone was hid in the bushes behind a turkey and got peppered a little, i could see that a little, but to directly shoot a human as your target, there are no excuses

Most likely what you guys are sayin is right on the money, BUT before spreading judgement none of us really even know what exactly happened. Think about it. You guys remember the man vs turkey you tube vid that was posted here a while back? What if the guy that got shot had a full strut decoy tryin to sneak up on the "hens" he heard calling? the odds are against it but what if? And if that happened who does the idiot award go to, the shooter or the one being shot? I know it might not sound good but decoys can be purty realistic, and in the heat of the moment when your heart is pounding adrenaline is rushing, Its probably even more realistic. I DONT KNOW THE FACTS just throwing that out there

Lets face it....this time of the year with all the green leaves, bushes and camo makes a recipe for disaster. It should make all of us aware of what could happen if we or a fellow hunter does not 100% ID their target.

I also hate to hear this. I just don't understand why? I was hunting Anderson Tulley one morning and a hunter tried to sneak in on me, I had a decoy out and he was looking hard for that hen I guess. I just shut up and watched him, boy there sure are some uneducated hunters out there!!!. Last time I looked at the regulations it says bearded turkey.

Nothing in the Stewart Houston Times about it today. I haven't heard the story at work yet. Any more details Howa?
