Turkey Kill or Not Killed (video)

Did not watch the video. You don't deserve me giving you the attention you were seeking first. Wannabe internet fame jockey. Put the animal and the camera down.

Stuff happens in the world of hunting. Not a single hunter on here has not done something dumb or wounded an animal. We learn from our mistakes. We should be supporting one another here and not tearing down. We get enough of that from the antis. Cut the guy some slack. He was brave enough to bare all and was criticized for it. Shame on you.

Not when you are focused on the smack down look at me kill footage.

For those that want to defend the guy, please explain what he was thinking when he said the whole chain of events and the outcome "was funny". That reminds me of a young teenager's mentality.

This is how my brain works: If I did something as shameful as that at this point in my career, I'd tell my closest 2-3 friends (maybe), I'd probably call myself an azzhat (my friends would laugh, laugh some more, and agree with me), I'd learn from it, and I'd do my best to never repeat those actions. Never in a million years would I publicly promote it and try to blow it off as FUNNY! In my opinion, that makes him look even more foolish.

Please explain.

I don't disagree with that aspect one bit Andy. As hunters we have a moral and ethical responsibility to the quarry we pursue to kill in an efficient and quick manner. Nothing funny about an animal suffering. However I don't find that statement grounds to crucify him given that the other 95% of his content in the post was posted in an effort to help educate other hunters from his mistake. Just my opinion though.

Also some people use "humor" in an attempt to mask their embarrassment...not saying he did this because I can't get inside his mind, but it is a coping mechanism.

If none of us expressed our thoughts about what we believe to be either good or bad behavior,
would we be rewarding the bad and not the good?

Of course, opinions vary, and that's why we can't agree on everything.
I didn't think the boy's video was "funny",
and if that's his coping mechanism, I'm just not wanting to encourage it, at least not is this context.

Exactly my thoughts as well.

I agree wholeheartedly....did he make a dumb decision?...yes...have I?...yes...have you?...

It seems as if his follow up post contained some good information. He wants to use his screw up to start some educational discussions with other hunters to inform them so that they don't make the same mistake, and in turn, hopefully, it keeps many other animals from suffering like this one did. 99% of what we have learned as hunters was from making mistakes, not because we were born perfect hunters.

I agree with your statements, but his guy is a moron... If i get up on turkey who is not dead, I twist his neck or pop it in some way.

Who carries an animal by its neck while it struggles and thinks well it will die sooner or later.... Kill the animal and put it out of its misery.

There are mistakes and I've made a bunch, but then there is just stupidity and not dispatching an animal as soon as possible is stupidity. He should have killed it off camera and then came over for the "look at my kill" shot.

You must not have seen his recap on the hunt that I posted.

"I should have twisted his neck but what you didn't see is the bird actually went limp on the ground off the frame. I took my hands off him after I removed the arrow and laid him on the ground. He never moved. So I was convinced he was dead, "

He thought it was dead.

I guess none of us done anything stupid that we couldn't laugh at later. I'm not condoning his actions by no means. I've gotten myself into a few situations that didn't pan out like I had hoped. I can laugh at myself for being an idiot, going about things wrong, how I handled it, etc..... I don't take too kindly to losing an animal that I know is wounded. But some mistakes are worth passing on to others so they do them themselves.

No I didn't see that. However the bird looks like its beak was moving and maybe his neck too. It sucks for that guy and after reading it appears he's trying to educate people on what not to do.
