TWRA meeting today

It's still there

This was posted and I seen the August 3 day saying closed across the board. Or is this not set in stone

Yes for west and west, central, middle zones , 2 for eastern zone.
That's brilliant! Shoot your bird in the 2 bird zone and check it in on your computer in the 3 zone.

Kill them all! I am about done with it anyway. Just pure stupidity by the agency. They haven't had a real turkey biologist since Jack Murray retired.

Amen brother
Seems like it would just be easier to make it two birds across the state and be done with it. Just my .02 since it seems like we have some years with great hatches where weather is good etc. This prepares is for the lean years. And we know we will have those also. I just want a solid steady population.

It's interesting the county with the 2nd highest population (Greene county) is lumped in with other counties with lower populations. Not sure how management is happening. I'm with you, quit f'ing with it and just make turkeys non-regulated species and let everyone kill as many as they want any time. There are other states to hunt.

SO.................................. reading the top of that turkey map posted, it says March of 2024, does that mean the season is going to open earlier THIS YEAR than my TWRA calendar shows? Does that mean the limit THIS SPRING is now THREE birds? Im confused!
Today was the preview. Nothing goes into effect until this fall. This year's stuff was set 2 years ago

What is a grip n grinner? I have seen it used on here before but never asked what it means.
A term for all of the morons that care zero about the sport of turkey hunting and only about posting a picture of them and their bird(s) on Faceplant.

They care zero about how they kill a gobbler as long as they can post that picture.

That's kind of what I thought it was. But wanted to make sure that's what it meant so that way when I use in reference to @Setterman this season using this reference I know I am using it correctly. I am sure there will be pictures of him with his flock of decoys. Lol

But, the out of staters and the grip-n-grinners will be happy. That's obviously the most important thing. To he66 with the population.

There will be a huge number of birds killed in a 2-bird county
but "checked in" in a 3-bird county, and many of them will be the very 1st bird
the shooter checks in for the year, not his 3rd.

This means the statewide harvest data becomes even less valuable
because it becomes more skewed.

TWRA has near zero ability to sort out the lawless from the lawful,
so again, just another edict that overall may do more harm than good.
Dishonest shooters get rewarded, honest hunters get punished.
That's the reality.

There is no perfect plan.
But when we went to the very simple, convenient on-line and/or tele-check
(instead of the physical in-person check stations),
we lost the practical ability to more accurately managed by county
and by units.

The current check-in system is rife for abuse,
but at least with a simple statewide limit,
regardless the number, there is little incentive
to falsely claim the county (or unit) of kill.

I don't see doing away with the current internet/tele-check system.
So for that reason, it becomes more imperative than ever
for TWRA to keep game laws as simple and uniform as possible "statewide".

New sheriffs in town. No one left that helped build the populations and spend more hours working than at home.
I know. I'm at a loss for words if what I'm seeing here comes to fruition.
I saw what TWRA did back then and it was terrific.
To be honest an officer was my tutor then into a roll in the agency, but I chose a different path.
