This is on a farm my family owns. It not where
I live, but about 6 miles away. I have hunted it twice and have hunted the big farm beside it twice this yr. I have run trail cams on this farm since July as well as the farm beside it since August. Probably have pics of 30 different bucks on it, only 2 have interested me but i havent really pursued them so virtually no hunting pressure. Then today at 3:03 i get this pic. Lol, certainly never saw this one before. Im just amazed that 4 cams running 5 months and i get a tame deer that i have never seen before. Obviously hes safe with me even if he didnt have a collar, but i find deer movement intriguing and the collar certainly id's him as a new deer.Im fine with never shooting another buck, but im captivated by their travel patterns. They never cease to amaze me.

This pic was taken in a 3/4 acre creek bottom foodplot.

Wow!! It wasn't until I acquired at 3,700 acre lease in west TN and managed it for 9 years that I learned just how much bucks range and even change territories. So many examples, but I killed a muzzleloader buck one morning at 10:30 am that had made an appearance at another camera 2.5 miles away at 10 pm the night before, and he was coming from the opposite direction when I shot him. Never ceases to amaze me how much this guys travel…especially during the rut.

Id expect it during the rut, but not in January. He was chasing a doe however (it appears)

Is this like a banded duck and after you harvest it you get to call in and see how far he traveled?

One year in Missouri I got this one on my trail cam. I had a picture of him a year earlier as a spike and I couldn't tell what was on his neck. Looks like he is someone's pet deer around there.

I'd honestly think that's a tracking collar. And possibly somebody or a group is doing some kind of study. That don't look like just a dog collar. Somebody is tracking his movements.

Wait until that collar gets hung up on a fence or tree that he rubs against and he either gets choked out or stuck and a pack of coyotes or wondering dogs gets him. The "owner" wouldn't be so thrilled if that small buck was sparing with another and the bigger buck got its antlers stuck and both of them died from it. Some people have zero common sense.
