Just look at the NCAA list of all the shared NCs.

I looked at the NCAA list and the Vols are on it a total of two times.

That has nothing to do with my point. My point is pre-1998 National Championships were a joke. Most years several teams claimed them and even more could have claimed them. And most could be disputed. Awarding the NC before the bowls? Come on.

No, they were not all a joke. National championships were being awarded after the bowls well before 1998, and there were also many clear-cut national champions prior to 1998.

But, you're right. There are some that are a joke. A good example would be the Vols claiming the 1967 national championship, as I explained earlier in the thread.

Using Vol math, Notre Dame has 22 national championships and Alabama has 19.

You must think I'm defending the 6 NCs or something. I'm not. I'm saying pre-1998 MOST NC's were disputable. Someone with too much time and no bias would have to decide who really deserved them. Me personally? I couldn't care less. I played on none of those teams. I get no extra pay if Tennessee has 2 or 22. I'm more concerned with seeing Tennessee play for another one than what happened in 1915.

So the Vols have 1 NC since 1998. How many does ND have since 1998?

Hold on, let me check the official NCAA championship history....

Tenneessee national championships: 1951, 1998
Notre Dame national championships: 1919, 1924, 1929, 1930, 1943, 1946, 1947, 1949, 1964, 1966, 1973, 1977, 1988

Looks like no real national championships for Notre Dame since 1998.

If we use Vol math, then the national championship history looks like this:

Tennessee national championships: 1938, 1940, 1950, 1951, 1967, 1998
Notre Dame national championships: 1919, 1920, 1924, 1927, 1929, 1930, 1938, 1943, 1946, 1947, 1949, 1953, 1964, 1966, 1967, 1970, 1973, 1977, 1988, 1989, 1993, 2012

So, that would be one national championship for Notre Dame since 1998. :super:

Since the Vols 1998 national championship, Notre Dame is 120-79 (.603) and Tennessee is 120-81 (.561). So, if Notre Dame has sucked and been irrelevant for the past 15 years, then it looks like Tennessee is right there with us.

You are exactly right. I don't follow ND so I can't comment, but things are looking up on Rocky Top. You ND fans can spend your time in the leather helmet days if you like! :smash:

So you admit Notre Dame sucks. How many girlfriends have Notre Dame players "claimed" in that amount of time?

One, which is one less than the number of consecutive wins Notre Dame currently has against Tennessee. :rotf:

10 straight to Florida and 2 straight to Notre Dame. :poke:

Now since ND is irrelevant he is becoming a florida fan? Wrong bandwagon buddy!

Ha! You know that I'm a bona fide SEC-hater. I was simply pointing out that the Vols are currently the most irrelevant team on this board. :o

Don't despair, though. At least the Vols have those 2 national championships to lean on. ;) :rotf:
