The weather through day 5 has been wretched and maybe the worst I've seen for opening week in a while. It's hard enough right now without the hurricane winds I stood around in this morning. Dang frustrating to get up at 3:30 drive an hour, climb 1,500 feet and be greeted with 25 mph sustained winds gusting to 40 mph when it was supposed to be calm.

Yep Monday was the best as far as gobbling and weather around here. This morning they gobbled decent on the roost but only 2 times after fly down. Really windy here also. It sucks trying to dress so you don't freeze in the morning and sweat in the afternoon.

It's terrible...yesterday morning was smooth but the rest of the week through the weekend looks like the same song and dance...have any of you fellas had any luck trying to find areas that are out of the wind? Do the birds usually head for areas like this when it's windy?

I was gonna walk behind the house and hunt this morning, bout as easy as it gets, but after feeling the wind I decided to stay inside. Maybe tomorrow....

Brutal weather conditions. I don't think I'm going to hunt for the next several days. I had burning work days when the conditions are this way.

Tell me about it, snuck out because it looked like it would be a decent morning but low and behold it was the opposite of decent. When i stepped out of the truck it was 32 with 25 mph winds, I don't know the exact wind chill but it was nippy to say the least.

On the other hand, I love when the weather is like this during the work week. Makes working much easier...

Yep, the car didn't make it past Callahan Drive this morning. I turned and went straight to the office. Sleeping in until 6 sure felt good.

Oftentimes, yes. i know our SW TN topography is much different than those to the east but I see birds roost and hang out more often in or nearer a bottom vs. up on the ridges.

Seriously it was blowing so hard an hour ago it blew my hat off AND then blew me off the side of a ridge lol. Crazy. Decided I had enough after that

Looked at the hourly weather yesterday morning and this morning and when the alarm went off I rolled back over and went back to sleep.

I don't mind turkey hunting in any weather. I hate windy days, but I've never not went because it's too windy.
I like some adverse weather, it keeps the "googans" at home. Turkeys still be turkeys, it just makes it more difficult.

I agree with all, horrible weather. Monday morning was awesome though.ideal conditions and they sure did gobble on my place. Amazing morning, best I have experienced in years. I'm gonna take some vacation days, but not with weather forecasted like it is now. I will hunt if I'm off, but won't burn vacation on it.

Right, right. It keeps those guys at home so all the serious turkey hunters have the woods to themselves.

Bwahahahahahahaha, yeah the ones at home are the guys who actually kill lots of turkeys while the others fighting the elements go home empty handed more often then not, and make their long term season tougher because of educated birds.

The smart turkey hunters know that the best and most enjoyable hunting is on days when the wind isn't blowing 30mph, it's not pouring rain, and its not snowing.
